While the rest of you are probably still waiting for your invitations to show up in the mail, some middle-schoolers are poised to beat you to the White House. Michelle Obama has asked some 6th- and 7th-grade D.C. school children to come over Wednesday afternoon to hear Sweet Honey in the Rock, reports our colleague DeNeen Brown. The Grammy-winning group, an a cappella ensemble of African-American women, specialize in songs about history, civil liberties and freedom. The first lady's office said the invitation was part of her effort to open the doors of the White House to the D.C. community.
