  • Condi Rice has signed a three-book, $2.5 million deal with Crown, reports the Associated Press. The former secretary of state will write a book about her years with the Bush administration, a family memoir and a kids' version of the family story.

  • Washington National Opera's Placido Domingo is the first winner of the $1 million Birgit Nilsson Prize. The award goes to a leader in classical music; the soprano picked Domingo to receive the prize before her death in 2005.
