Wanda Sykes will entertain at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner May 9, the annual media-political-showbiz schmoozefest at which President Obama is expected to make his first appearance at the head table. Sykes, of "The Chris Rock Show" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm," told the Associated Press, "The first thing I did when they asked me to do this gig -- I made sure my taxes were paid."
Well, it's not Westminster, but...Gerry Connolly, the freshman rep from Fairfax, was honored yesterday when his dog Georgie was named "Best Campaigner" in the Humane Society's Congressional Canine Honors. Connolly's wife, Cathy, had entered a photo of the 14-year-old schnauzer marching in a parade. Prize: dog biscuits and a plaque with Harry Truman's saying, "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." (Does the Hill sometimes feel like Spirit Day at your middle school?)
Regarding Congressman Gerry Connolly's dog: are we sure his name is Georgie? I could swear I read somewhere that his name is Cerberus.
