Role Reversal

Helen Thomas next to fav Sam Donaldson in the White House press briefing room,1986. (Frank Johnston)
The tables were turned on Helen Thomas last week when the veteran White House correspondent finally had to answer some tough questions herself. Guests at a Teatro Goldoni ladies-only supper hosted by Janet Donovan and Christine Warnke each had a chance to ask one:
President she'd most like to sleep with? None of them.
Most memorable presidential trip? Nixon in China, 1972.
Best press secretary? Jerry terHorst, Ford's spokesman for just one month.
White House press secretary she'd most like to have drinks with? Pierre Salinger.
Best at dodging her questions? All of them.
Wackiest times? Anything involving LBJ.
Least favorite White House reporter? Not saying.
Most favorite? Sam Donaldson. (Good answer! She was sitting next to his wife, Jan Smith Donaldson.)
