This Just In ...

  • New details in Mel Gibson's divorce case, which is shaping up to be one of the most expensive in Hollywood history. In papers filed by Gibson yesterday, he lists the date of separation as Aug. 26, 2006 -- less than a month after his profanity-laced DUI arrest. The couple will be battling over his fortune; with no prenup, that means wife Robyn could get up to half of the $900 million he earned during their 28-year marriage.

  • Recession? Not for Madonna, who snapped up a $40 million mansion in New York City. The Material Girl picked up a 13-bedroom, 14-bath Georgian-style townhouse (3,000-square- foot garden, nine fireplaces, an elevator and a wine cellar with a grotto) on the Upper East Side, the New York Post reports.

It is a shame that Mel Gibson isn't as intelligent as I gave him credit for, which was seeing the inestimable value in his loyal wife versus scratching a midlife crisis itch with a silly 24 year old. How cliche can you get? Being with someone that young does not make Mel seem younger, but older! He needs to take some lessons in growing older with dignity from Sting.
