-- Paul Williams at an ASCAP gala at the Library of Congress Tuesday, after Jimmy Webb performed his epic "Wichita Lineman." (Other top songwriters on hand included Hal David, Johnny Mandel, Ashford & Simpson.) Williams was being modest: He also wrote "We've Only Just Begun," "Evergreen," etc.
