A Healthy Dose of Hollywood

Jessica Alba and Keri Russell at the Upper Cardozo Clinic on Thursday. (Roxanne Roberts/The Washington Post)

Charge of the celeb-advocates, Part 3: Actresses Jessica Alba, Keri Russell, Regina King, Ali Wentworth.

Cause: Health care for 9.million uninsured and underinsured kids.

Backup: Michelle Fenty, Children's Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman.

How they looked: Lovely, Hollywood-serious -- Alba in white shirt, black sweater and pants; Russell in yellow dress; lots of expensive designer shoes.

Remarks: None. Stars toured the Unity Health Care Upper Cardozo Clinic in Columbia Heights yesterday, then listened to horror stories of insurance woes so they could share those stories on Capitol Hill later in the day. Because actual moms with insurance woes don't get meetings with senators.

Observation: Getting tired of the "celebrities read to cute kids" photo op. The kids don't seem to care much, either. "They like the cameras better than the book," Russell said to photographers.

Whom we passed up for them: Goldie Hawn for kids' mental health; Maury Povich for kids' golf; Ted Turner for refugees.
