Constituent Service: Singing 'Idol' Praises

When a conservative Republican takes to the House floor to cheer a guylinered Hollywood dandy, maybe the forces of history are lining up to coronate a very different "American Idol."
Rep. Brian Bilbray last week commended finalist Adam Lambert, a native of the congressman's San Diego district, for "his amazing journey ... inspiring young people everywhere to work hard, aim high and follow their dreams." Bilbray quoted Lenny Kravitz ("I just need to know that I did the very best I could, and that I was true to myself") and promised Lambert: "We will be rooting for you."
As Roll Call noted, this followed other congressional "Idol" shout-outs from Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) for Danny Gokey, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) for Matt Giraud.
Hey, so where's the Capitol love for Kris Allen? The last man standing against Lambert is a heartland-adorable church group leader. Why no floor tributes for him? We asked his congressman, Rep. Vic Snyder (D-Ark.).
"So far Kris seems to have wowed America quite well without any government help," Snyder responded in an e-mail. "Why jinx him now? GO KRIS!"
