DMC: Raising, Um, Awareness in D.C.

Mayor Adrian Fenty poses with Darryl McDaniels, better known as DMC of Run-DMC, at a press conference to promote foster care. (Nikita Stewart/The Washington Post)
On the mike yesterday: A whole new Run-DMC.
That would be rap legend Darryl McDaniels, a.k.a. DMC, teaming up with Adrian Fenty, who -- well, he runs, so let's say he's the next Run. And now he raps! Sort of. In town to promote the city's foster home program, our colleague Nikita Stewart reports, DMC bantered with the mayor, who said he caught the '86 show at the 9:30 club and suavely dropped an old-school reference -- that the initials really stood for "devastating mike control." So DMC broke into some verse from "King of Rock" ... and the mayor joined in!
But seriously: McDaniels says his initials now stand for "delivering my children." He's filming an ad to recruit foster families. "These foster kids are the next great mayors, rappers. . . . [They] represent possibilities."
