Surreal Estate

Gerald Ford's former home in Alexandria's Clover area. (File Photo)

Seller: Javad Khakbaz

Final asking price: $750,000

Details: Three years ago, this 1950s 4BR brick Colonial in Alexandria's Clover neighborhood made a splash on the market -- not for its pool but for its pedigree: Gerald Ford had it built as a young congressman and spent the first 10 days of his presidency there in '74 before moving up to 1600 Pennsylvania. But at $1 million, no one nibbled; a year and a $100K price drop later, Khakbaz took it off the market and rented it out. Now, a British family of five is about to close on it for a more modest price. "Maybe it will get some tender loving care now," agent Joan Dixon said. The new owners will enjoy a historic-landmark plaque and reinforced driveway that can support a presidential limo.
