Police in Old Tappan, N.J., are investigating an incident in which a reporter checked Brooke Shields's mother out of her nursing home -- an episode the actress claims was an attempt by the National Enquirer to get a "tabloid story." Shields told People that two reporters falsely claiming to be friends of Teri Shields, 75, who suffers from dementia, signed her out of the home Thursday and drove her around. The Enquirer released a statement saying a freelancer who's a longtime friend of the older woman visited her and agreed to take her out to lunch after getting permission from the facility. Police found them at a restaurant next door. No charges filed thus far.
