Maybe Bo's Just Not a Giants Fan
He seemed like such a nice dog ... but White House pup Bo took a piece out of a visitor's sport coat Wednesday.
Dave Flemming, a broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants, was touring the executive mansion with the visiting team when he caught sight of the frisky 8-month-old dog in an entryway to the Oval Office. The puppy greeted him with an affectionate lick. They crossed paths again in the Rose Garden.
"He laid down, he wanted me to scratch his belly," Flemming told our colleague Dan Steinberg. "But he's a puppy, so then he wanted to nip at my hands." Then Bo went for the cuff of his blazer and gripped it like a chew toy.
"I'm like, 'uhhh,' looking around. Am I allowed to yell at the president's dog? ... Can I say 'Bad dog, no!' " The Alexandria native heard a seam tear. "At that point, I said, 'C'mon, Bo!' "
Finally a handler intervened. No complaints: Flemming said the jacket was nearing the end of its life anyway; now he's got a story. "I probably would have given it away," he said. "Now I'll save it."
