Another Wish Filled on the NewsHour

Washington attracts a certain kind of youngster. Colette Jaycox, a 17-year-old leukemia patient, was given the chance to have a wish fulfilled ... and the politics fan picked a day with Jim Lehrer and "The NewsHour."
The Make-A-Wish Foundation brought Jaycox and her family from Fremont, Calif., on Tuesday to spend the day at WETA's studios in Arlington. She started the day hobnobbing with Lehrer, Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff at the morning editorial meeting; took pointers from the top anchor on reading a prompter and prepping for interviews; got the full TV makeup treatment; and made a tape of reading the news summary from the anchor's chair. (Jaycox is hardly the youngest Lehrer groupie. In 2006, we wrote about Henry Schally of St. Paul, Minn., who insisted on a Lehrer-themed party -- for his third birthday.)
