This Just In

Rep. Patrick Kennedy is returning to Capitol Hill after a 28-day stint in rehab. "I totally surrendered to my powerlessness over the illness," the Rhode Island Democrat told our colleague Mary Ann Akers. "The fact [is], I can't do it by myself and need a higher power to help me." His stay at Father Martin's Ashley center in Havre de Grace, Md., was his second time in a drug-and-alcohol treatment program. Rep. John Sullivan (R-Okla.) also just returned from substance-abuse treatment at the Betty Ford Center, his office announced.
Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, yesterday lost her bid to control his estate. An L.A. judge ruled that the singer's longtime attorney John Branca and family friend John McClain should handle the estimated $500 million fortune, as designated in Jackson's 2002 will.
