Surreal Estate

Daniel Mudd (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta)

Seller: Daniel Mudd
Asking price: $9.5 million
Details: The former CEO of Fannie Mae -- ousted when the government seized the failing mortgage giant last fall -- is leaving town and unloading his sprawling Georgian-style mansion in Cleveland Park. He bought the showplace for $5.15 million shortly after joining the company in 2000. Six bedrooms, swimming pool, carriage house, gated driveway, three-car garage -- and several dazzling rooms where Mudd used to entertain Fannie Mae employees who contributed to the company's political action committee. Bonus VIP connection: Grover Cleveland used to own the land!
