This Just In . . .

  • The Beastie Boys canceled their tour and postponed their new album release because Adam Yauch is being treated for a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland and a nearby lymph node. "It's only localized this one place, and it's not in a place that affects my voice," he said in a video on the band's Web site on Monday, "so that's nice."

  • Another broken-wing woman on the Hill! Sen. Barbara Mikulski fractured her ankle on the way out of church in Baltimore on Sunday, her office said. She'll need surgery. The Maryland Dem joins a long list (Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Lisa Murkowski, Hillary Clinton, etc.) of powerful women with crutches or casts these days.

  • No surprise: Carrie Prejean got a book deal. The dethroned Miss California USA, who emerged as an unlikely traditional-marriage champion after a catfight with blogger Perez Hilton, will release "Still Standing" through D.C.'s conservative Regnery Publishing in November.
