"I've been famous for a long time."
-- Fran Drescher, telling our colleague Richard Leiby why she'd make a plausible U.S. Senate candidate from New York. The former star of "The Nanny" was in town this weekend flacking a new skin-care line and once again teasing that she might run for office.

I'm surprised that Richard Leiby would misquote me in such an outrageous way. Why on earth would I ever answer the question "Why would you make a plausible Senator?" with the answer "I've been famous a long time"? I have been asked that question on numerous occasions by many highly respected journalists and that has NEVER been my answer nor would it ever be. Richard, next time, please bring a digital recorder...

I have seen this woman cross swords with many a pundit on many an issue. She is intelligent, to the point, and sticks to her guns. Would having a representative like that, one actually born and raised in NYC, be such a bad thing? I think she'd be a welcome voice. (no pun intended)

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF MS. DRESCHER'S FOR MANY YEARS. BUT ONCE I HEARD HER SPEAK AND READ OF THE WORK THAT SHE HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN REGARDS TO GETTING A BILL PASSED FOR WOMAN'S CANCERS AND MAKING SURE THEY ARE ALL DIAGNOSED IN STAGE ONE. I WAS SOLD ! THIS WOMAN WOULD MAKE A GREAT SENATOR. I WOULD VOTE FOR HER BECAUSE I KNOW SHE WOULD WORK HER.... OFF WORKING FOR THE LIKES OF FRAN FINE.

I think a Senator named Fran would be FABULOUS! So much more outspoken and creative than that dork Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. Fran, honey, go for it and RUN! Can I be your campaign manager or at least pass out the free ice cream cones?
