Oprah's Quiet Time

Winfrey taping her show in Chicago on Tuesday. (Kiichiro Sato/Associated Press)
What would have brought Oprah Winfrey to central Maryland for Labor Day weekend? That's been puzzling us since we heard she and pal Gayle King were seen at the Hagerstown airport last Friday; a tipster sent us a photo of what looks like her Bombardier Global Express jet (tail numbers registered to Chicago's Harpo Inc.) parked on a tarmac with a gentle roll of blue mountain in the distance. Her reps didn't get back to us, but there are lots of great attractions in the area: Antietam! Gettysburg! Pretty stone bridges! And, uh, Camp David? Where the Obamas stayed last weekend. The White House keeps a tight lid on the guest list there; they didn't really get back to us either.

Yep...the area around Camp David, Site R, etc. is better accessed from Route 15 and Frederick as it is closer to Thurmont. However, Hagerstown Regional Airport has better FBO facilities and is only an additional 30-45 minutes away.

Actually, the Hagerstown Md. airport runway has been extended to handle large airliners. The Frederick airport is very limited. Air Force One could land and take off from Hagerstown.

FBO = Fixed Base Operator
An FBO provides services such as fuel, crew rest areas, flight planning, catering, and transportation for civilian aviation.
There is a picture online somewhere from about a year ago with AF1 on the ground at HGR with snowy mountains in the background.

No, if she were at "Camp David" the closet place to land her airplane would have been the Frederick airport. Alot closer to CD.
