Glamour's New Cover Girl: Michelle Obama

(Glamour Magazine)

Michelle Obama on a magazine cover -- nothing new there! But Michelle Obama on the cover of Glamour... The first lady will be one of five women to have her own cover on different versions of the December "Women of the Year" issue. (She's interviewed by Katie Couric and honored "for her focus on mentoring the next generation," the magazine announced.) When was the last time the popular women's mag (which this month put a minxish Scarlett Johansson on newsstands) had a non-model, non-entertainer on the cover? Took a while to find that answer. Glamour reps tell us Lauren Bush was the July 2002 covergirl -- cast as "first niece" in an "all American style" issue, but, yeah, remember, she is a model. So you'd have to go back to November 1996, when they put three average-Jane readers on the cover.

She is a beautiful, classy lady. But I wish the media would not focus solely on what she looks like. She's an accomplished woman by her deeds and from all accounts, a wonderful mother. Let's not make this vibrant woman one dimensional.

Ms Soetoro disdains and resents America as much as her Radical husband. They both have huge chips on their shoulders and are intent on weakening America. She remains not proud of her Country. They are frauds and the media, as exemplified by this nonsense, fawn like teenage girs. Pitiful

This picture and the one that is in the Post are not even close. She does nothing for me. This is all media hype and kiss butt. Halle Berry is a sexy and pretty lady.

They are an odd couple, she is big boned and he is a stick. Not trying to be mean, just a comment from an old fat man!!

Then again if you look at alot of the leaders of the world ,some are down right creepy looking!!

I'm sorry. Michelle Obama certainly is a "reach" for a "glamour girl" Just because a hyped up media declares she is; is not what she actually is.

Posted by: willtill | October 28, 2009 7:44 PM | Report abuse

congrats to our beautiful first lady.
to all the hateful and green-eyed jealous commenters, her popularity as well as her husbands' has to do with how others feel about them.
it probably also reflects how america and the world are hopeful of a promising new beginning after 8 long years of the worst misadministration in our history.
to atenora you and your ilk represent the very worst of america.
the world watches and listens, you should be ashamed, but we know you are not.

We have a lot of sick posts, talk about low mentality. You might as well get used to her, she will be around for a little more than seven years yet.

Posted by: shipfreakbo214 | October 28, 2009 9:11 PM | Report abuse

She is stunning as always. Love her, her gorgeous hubby and her darling children. I am looking forward to seeing many more beautiful covers, and stories about her fantastic work with young people and vets, and her fantastic family - which is a great role model for Americans.

The irony of the posts by the ignorants is that they troll around Washingtonpost.com, a news organization that isn't trashy tabloid or overblown radio talking heads, which actually cater to them. Washington Post actually has thoughtful writers and columnists, who often conduct good research and provide details of things important to the city and nation. These nutcases actually read these articles and then spend much time trying to convince the sane majority that they make the least bit of sense (they would make a great psycho-sociological study). I imagine them with warts on faces and humps on backs living in dark places, laughing hysterically at their own delusions. Most of us have learned to ignore or feel pity for their desperate last gasps of air. Soon they will disappear and we'll forget they were ever here.

How'bout some more 'transparency',like how much has she spent on clothes and coiffures since inauguration day. I bet it's in the millions.

Beautiful and elegant woman. Love the cover.

Before I go, I'd like to say have a nice day to all of the haters.

What a beautiful intelligent woman, wife, and mother.

Her husband and children are very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in their lives.

Oh haters...how do you sleep at night? Knowing that you sole purpose in life is to hate on someone who is more accomplished than you and probably more than you can ever be or dream of.

While you ignorant idiots are on here posting out of the comfort of your snuggies and hiding in your mom's basement before you and your base head buddies come up with another "govt is out to get us" conspiracy theory. I suggest you look in the mirror and ask yourself do you like who you are..because if you are honest you will say no.

To spend so much time degrading someone on their looks only ratifies the theory that "THE BIGGEST HATERS ARE USUALLY YOUR BIGGEST FANS" So keep hating on the Obamas please, it gives them energy...Type furiously on your keyboards, Capitalize all the letters to really make your point but understand in the end you are nothing but small, petty human beings, who would not even be worth the gum that attaches to the gum on Michelle obama's shoes or even bo obama.

So go ahead male haters...just realize that it is still illegal to marry your hand.WINK WINK

And the female hater...so sad how we are each others biggest critics...but I sugest you take that CURVES subscription you have been looking at and take your lard arse and squeeze it into your KMart leggings- the one with the whole in the left thigh- and work off that extra "baby" weight.

Toodles,Have a nice life haters

It's nice to havea beatuful First Lady in the White House for a change... You go girl

I used to be concerned about the hateful posts each time First Lady Michelle Obama is pictured or even mentioned. Not anymore. Since the posts are all anonymous, I presume the people behind the funny names are all 12-year-olds; it's just the type of humor a mean 12-year-old would exhibit.

Posted by: gsross | October 28, 2009 10:54 PM | Report abuse

My gosh, liberals are as blind as they are stupid. Mrs. B.O. is NOT beautiful! Good grief you people are nauseating!

Posted by: DCer1 | October 28, 2009 11:00 PM | Report abuse

"THE BIGGEST HATERS ARE USUALLY YOUR BIGGEST FANS"

Boy, this brings a whole new perspective on the rabid liberal hatred towards Bush.

I guess I must absolutely love our current empty suit of a so-called president.

Posted by: DCer1 | October 28, 2009 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Wow, was it time for another article on Michelle's style or build, neither of which I find remotely impressive. You sycophants are amazing.

Posted by: dtysko | October 28, 2009 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Joinnow needs to stop posting. You are an embarrassment.

Posted by: dtysko | October 28, 2009 11:06 PM | Report abuse

Some of the comments here go too far in the negative and name-calling. But personally, I'll never forget her remarks about the U.S. before "team Obama" started working on her.
They gave her a "softer" look, changed her eye-brows, etc. Now, her team of make-up/hair people are always with her.
I think she looks and acts a lot better -- emphasize the "acts".

I don't think she is sincere, the chip is still on the shoulder and her Olympic speech probably lost the Olympics for Chicago. She and her hubby are "me, me, me". Very old. We need "Change"

Posted by: pjcafe | October 28, 2009 11:13 PM | Report abuse

Lol, and you all have the nerve to ask why you're called racists.

Posted by: Crucialitis | October 28, 2009 11:25 PM | Report abuse

I have no admiration for either of the Obamas. Having said that, joinnow is an embarrassment to the human race.

Is there any monitoring of this site? I have tried to "report abuse", but it's not going through.

Posted by: waterfrontproperty | October 28, 2009 11:28 PM | Report abuse

How lovely she looks!

Posted by: vaam | October 28, 2009 11:37 PM | Report abuse

Michelle Obama being considered a "glamourous woman" is sheer media hype! I'm not saying she's ugly, just that she's not any more "glamourous than anybody else I run into everyday. The media continus to hype her, just as the mainstream media hyped her husband into the White house. All of this is what the liberals in the press love. Laura Bush was much more "glamourous" and George W. was what most people would consider a nice looking man, but nobody fawned over him in the media....

Posted by: denves | October 28, 2009 11:44 PM | Report abuse

Cute doesn't last long that's certainly for Michele. Enough kissy kissy with her. She's got everything at her finger-tips including air force one. Stop giving her print and maybe your papers will sell again. You guys love your liberals but your jobs are at stake. Get off the Obama band-wagon.

Washington, DC supposedly has one of the highest education rates in the country...most of the comments on this article would seem to indicate the opposite. Doesn't say a lot for Americans.

Posted by: mupright_2000 | October 28, 2009 11:47 PM | Report abuse

What is wrong with the Washington Post for allowing the vitriol posted here?
Mrs Obama is bright beautiful and gracious.
She doesn't have to spend her time proping up an alcaholic illiterate who lied us into war that killed and maimed hudreds of thousands; bankrupted the country; explain away two drunk teens; why American was attacked on home soil or why the VP shot his friend in the face. Anything was an improvement over these last 8 years and this is more then a mere improvement. God Bless the Obamas and I loved Laura Bush

I TRIED SO HARD TO IGNORE ALL OF THE HATEFUL, RACIST POSTS HERE THAT DENIGRATE THE BEAUTY AND INTELLIGENCE OF OUR EXTRAORDINARY FIRST LADY, BUT I SIMPLY CAN'T. THESE POSTS COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN 200 YEARS AGO BY THE SAME BACKWARDS VIOLENT THUGS WHO RIDICULED THE BEAUTY OF BLACK WOMEN IN PUBLIC AND RAPED THEM IN PRIVATE. FOR THE WHITE READERS WHO ARE AS APPALLED AS THE REST OF US, PLEASE KNOW THAT WE BELIEVE YOU BE THE MAJORITY, NOT THE BOTTOM DWELLERS WHO'VE MADE IT THEIR BUSINESS TO APPLY THEIR ANOREXIC, ANGLO-SAXON STANDARDS OF BEAUTY TO OUR STUNNING, REMARKABLE FIRST LADY.

mfischer208;
I say this with sincerity but Michelle has the kind of beauty that is universally recognized. Many women (especially European) pay to have similar features. She has a degree from Princeton and Harvard Law. She earned her degree. She is, indeed extremely intelligent.
The United States of America benefited from it's own "affirmative action": 300 years of slavery, jim crow and segregation. With that said, it is pointless and quite silly to whine about Affirmative action for non-whites (i.e. groups "held back" economically by slavery, jim crow and segregation)

Here you go trying to analyze black preachers and worshippers. Do you ever wonder why Sundays are the most segregated day in America. Hmm..white folk trying to impose their religious views on non-whites. I say mind your own minister and religious practice and let others mind theirs. I like Wright and have had ministers like him. I, like Michelle, will go wherever I please to hear the word of God.

I love how these wonderful articles always bring out the bitter haters. They are probably trembling at the keyboards...trembling with anger at the successful Obama family that dared defying the normal rules of the presidency. Defying the world order as is has always been, I hope it irritates the haters -- make the blood pressure and heartbeat soar.

Posted by: bcs2k | October 29, 2009 2:21 AM | Report abuse

It's great to see the First Lady on the cover of Glamour. It's great to have a First Lady that deserves the title. But what I cannot understand, nor tolerate, are the ugly racist comments being freely printed by the Post. To give voice and credibility to the loonies who just have to say something stupid about the First Lady, is a shame. Those remarks should be stricken from the comment section. I know we can't have the Post employ a hall monitor for the kids, but these remarks are way off the chart of civility. Just maybe the jerks who make these rude and unnecessary remarks will go back up swinging on the tree limbs from which they obviously and unfortunately evolved.

I don't think Mrs. Obama is an attractive woman, but who cares what she looks like. It's her husband's policies I am worried about.

As for haters, DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!

Posted by: tonksrock | October 29, 2009 1:35 PM | Report abuse

She is a pretty woman, and I think that she is at peace just being First Lady, as if the life goals of her and her husband have already been met, regardless of the political turmoil swirling about these days.

Posted by: RealTexan1 | October 29, 2009 3:03 PM | Report abuse

I am a big fan of the Obamas and I voted for and support Barack wholeheartedly. However, I have to kind of agree that Michelle, although she's well turned out, isn't really particularly beautiful or even all that glamorous. She does wear great clothes a lot of the time, but I think there's a fantastic amount of exaggeration about her looks. She looks perfectly okay and she's well dressed and coiffed. Jackie O was much more glamourous that Michelle O though.

Posted by: Luciana1 | October 29, 2009 3:55 PM | Report abuse

to 79usmc83 as one of the obvious haters, your full description is old fat white racist who wants to see this country fail.

Seems black people have another slang word they LOVE to use whenever other people of any race don't agree with Pres Obama and his agenda, or agree that Michelle Obama deserves to be Woman of the Year...Haters...their big word...wow...pathetic.
