Surreal Estate
Seller: Bruce Bastian
Asking price: $4.5 million
Details: Hello! Who knew the WordPerfect millionaire has been living right in the heart of Kalorama? Bastian, inventor of the pioneering word-processing app, also splits time between London and Utah. Here he's a big donor to gay rights causes, was a major underwriter of Sunday's Equality March. Now Bastian, 61, is unloading the five-bedroom Federal mansion (wraparound patio, two-car garage) he bought three years ago for $5.25 million. He decided he likes his other Kalorama home better and never ended up moving into this one. That market drop must hurt, but Realtor Jim Bell has no fears: "Kalorama is having the best year it's had in its history -- for houses over $4 million."
