"Show Boat" debuted 82 years ago, and the daughter of lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II saw the original 1927 production when she was 6 -- and she was in the audience on Tuesday for Signature Theatre's new production of the iconic musical. Alice Hammerstein Mathias said she took her first plane ride in 30 years to attend the opening and reunited with Julie Gilbert, a relative of Edna Ferber, who wrote the 1926 novel. Small world, huh?
