Barbara Bush might not mind being innocuously and indirectly refered to as a barfly. Also, who knows to what political party, if any, she belongs. She could be recognizable young woman with a sense of humor who doesn't see every piece in a gossip column as a political attack.

Thanks for writing, cougar49. I guess these things aren't as obvious to readers as I assume, but the "other barflies" were actually my cherished sources for this sighting, and thus far they haven't been complained about being referred to as such -- understanding, as they do, a gossip columnist's need to write succinctly and snappily (avoiding clunky phrases like "other people in the bar," etc.) In hindsight I should have made it even briefer by dropping "other."

How disgusting you would refer to people stating at Barbara Bush as "other" barflies, as if she is one, too. As you said, she was sitting at a table with a large group of friends. That hardly makes her a "barfly" -- Please grow up and stop using every opportunity to bash members of the Bush family. Unless you are also willing to call Michelle Obama a "barfly" for going to a DC establishment that serves alchohol, please lay off the Bush family, even if you think it's ok to bash them just because the are Repulbican and white. It's not.
