Mariah Carey: Not late, just on 'Mariah time'
When Nick Cannon arrived solo at Wednesday night's Nickelodeon event, reporters demanded to know the status of his wife -- and co-host of the evening -- Mariah Carey.
"Mariah will show up at Mariah time," he replied.
Something tells us he's been asked this before.
The pop diva eventually showed at the Newseum for the premiere of the TeenNick HALO Awards, but she was more than an hour late, reports our colleague Emily Yahr.
As soon as Cannon wrapped up his introduction of the program (Friday night on TeenNick and Nickelodeon, celebrates four philanthropic teens), Carey -- in a skin-tight, floor-length red dress -- suddenly appeared from backstage.
"The plane wouldn't take off," she semi-apologized, beaming to the cheering audience as she embraced Cannon. "You don't know what we've been through."
Post-screening, all was forgiven. The star couple (she's 40, he's 29) spent a few minutes cuddling for the cameras and chatting with the evening's teen honorees; even though there was a strict "no questions" policy, one determined reporter managed to ask their advice for keeping a marriage strong. (Carey's response: "Fun!")
While many of the guests made a beeline for salmon appetizers and chocolate truffles, a cluster of diehard fans and cameras followed the duo and their entourage to a Town Car outside the museum. Carey quickly hopped in the back seat while her bodyguards slipped albums and other souvenirs through the car door for her to autograph; Cannon stayed outside and posed for pictures.
