The Los Angeles County coroner's office performed an autopsy Monday on Brittany Murphy, one day after the actress died of cardiac arrest. Murphy, 32, had flulike symptoms for days, according to the coroner's office, which said her death appears to be from natural causes. Prescription drugs were removed from her Hollywood Hills home; toxicology results will take six to eight weeks.
Anthony Marshall, 85, son of New York philanthropist Brooke Astor, was sentenced Monday to one to three years in prison for stealing millions from his late mother. "It is a paradox to me that such abundance has led to such incredible sadness," said New York state Supreme Court Justice A. Kirke Bartley Jr.
A California appeals court rejected Roman Polanski's bid to dismiss his 1977 sex case Monday. The ruling will make it more difficult for authorities to release the director, now under house arrest in Switzerland.
