Update: White House receiving lines live!

Seems the White House has had a change of heart: The Obamas decided to pose for photos at Monday's party with the press. At most of the receptions the traditional photo line has been replaced with a quick presidential mingle, so reporters thought they'd miss out on a grip-and-grin picture.

"I think the whole place was surprised," said Ward Carroll, editor of Military.com, who attended his first White House holiday party. "I was talking to Joe Klein, and he and his wife seemed as excited as me and my wife."

Other changes: The guest list was significantly pruned from years past, although the number of bloggers was up; guests were treated to plenty of food, spiked eggnog and a jazz band in the East Room.
