John Edwards's former mistress sues Andrew Young for return of 'very private' videotape

The sordid saga of John Edwards just got messier: The disgraced politician's former mistress, Rielle Hunter, has taken legal action to retrieve a "very private and personal" videotape from former Edwards aide Andrew Young, according to court documents obtained by the Associated Press.

"In or about September 2006, using my video camera, I authored a personal video recording that depicted matters of a very private and personal nature," Hunter wrote in an affidavit filed Thursday in North Carolina. "In 2006, I was also having an intimate relationship with Edwards." Hunter says she tried to destroy the video a few months later -- by pulling the tape out of the cassette -- and stored it in a box with personal belongings.

In Young's cringe-inducing campaign tell-all "The Politician," in bookstores on Saturday, he claims to have found a damaged tape marked "special" in a box of trash while cleaning out a house he had rented for Hunter. After re-spooling the tape, he watched it . . . only to find Edwards and a "visibly pregnant" woman, who wore jewelry identical to things Hunter would typically wear, doing something explicit.

It remains unclear if Hunter's 2006 tape is the same one that Young claims to have found. Young admits the pregnant woman's face is never visible in the tape. Furthermore, Hunter gave birth to her and Edwards's daughter, Frances Quinn, more than a year after she says her 2006 "private" video was made.

When court-ordered deputies went to Young's home to recover Hunter's items, Young's attorney told them he could not immediately turn over the tape. Hunter has also filed a lawsuit against Young and his wife, seeking a jury trial and damages for invasion of privacy.

After months of denials, Edwards last week admitted paternity of Francis Quinn, now almost 2. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have separated.

She isn't too bright if she thought that merely pulling out the tape would destroy it.

And yes, this story seems to have no ending.

Posted by: LittleRed1 | January 29, 2010 3:10 PM | Report abuse

Good for Rielle, she got a nice, steady paycheck from a millionaire for the next 18 years. On a side note, kind of disgusting that Edwards has a thing for pregnant women, eh?

Puh-leez, stop it! These people are irrelevant to the course of history. Absolutely irrelevant! She tried to destroy a video by storing it? These nitwits will never matter.

This just shows how much the Democratic party as a whole is more deserving of being on Jerry Springer than in governing in Washington.

I'd laugh, but it's more sad than funny.

The only "value" these stories have is to make less likely that Edwards could ever make a political comeback. That seems to make them quite valuable.

despite the negative portrayl that has come out on Mrs. Edwards recently, the persons I feel most sorry for are Mrs. Edwards and their children, who are compelled, whether they want to or not, to find out that Daddy Edwards is one giant scumbag. no kid should be forced to go thru that, and for that, Daddy Edwards should hang his head in shame for all time.

Bless your heart. You must have the two sides of your brain wired. One for all the good the Right Wing nuts do and the other for Dem gaffes. I would mention the right wing nut's digressions but I won't waste my time. It would never register.

Oh. Left wing nuts have the same type of brain. Obama "doesn't dodo? heh heh.

Please correct the error in the caption under the picture. The little girl's name is Frances, not Francis (Francis is the male version of the name).

Bless my heart. I will have to admit I was dumb as dirt about Edwards, He was my choice for POTUS up until the MSNBC debate when he and Obama double teamed and attacked Hillary. Questioned her integrity.

I hate to admit this but I hope the same thing that happened to Edwards happens to Obama. I think he is quite capable. I still think there is more to the Sinclair deal.

He deserves lots for the way he attacked Hillary. Edwards got his. I'm just looking forward to Obama getting his due.
The thing is I was never a Hillary supporter until that night. I found out that night she had a lots more class than either of those two clowns.

Rates with the way Bush did McCain. Bush got his and will be known the worst POTUS in history, unless Obama surpasses him.

Young should be drawn and quartered.

What kind of person takes someone else's videotape when they are supposed to be packing up their belongings?

Have to wonder why she initally filmed the episode in the first place. Perhaps she had plans to use it later on and then changed her mind once she was assured some income.

At least from the reports, Elizabeth Edwards had the grace to acknowledge and welcome the child, setting an example for her OWN children and enabling an atmosphere of familial acceptance --the baby is innocent in this, after all.

And that's all I take from this non-story.

Hardly war crimes committed against Iraqi children, those stupid press ko0ks.

rielle hunter [Isn't that name an alias?] is a monster because no one would care if she just had had an affair with john edwards but she had a baby with him and even though a man should be responsible enough to wear a condom, rielle was still manipulative and even invited the tabloids to where she had also invited edwards to see the baby. rielle has used that baby to get everything she now has -- but that sex tape just might finally destroy them both. rielle has hurt Elizabeth Edwards tremendously but in the words of Wendy Williams, "Rialle, ain't no good gon' come to you. Just watch." Because you cannot step on anyone's heart to get to your own happiness. Who says that rielle is going to outlive elizabeth edwards. every read ethan frome? And as for all the right wingers who are saying that edwards' malfeasance is a thing that only happens to the democratic party, perhaps should take a peek at all the homosexuality running rampant within the republican party and few, if any, think or say that homosexuality is a republican thing. God sees you Rialle.

Reille Hunter aka Lisa Druck, was married to alex hunter son of Bolder DA Alex Hunter of JonBonet Ramsey Fame.

Reille is the inspiration for std nyc social climber Allison Poole in gen-x novel 'Story of my life', loosely ased on Reille's father's involvement in 'horse murders' insurance fraud.

The details of this current and prior chapters of her sordid story can be found at wiki.

You can't make this stuff up.

Anyone not caught yet with a sex tape, is smart? enough to destroy it vs hiding it in the center of the floor of a vacant house.

Not making one in the first place is also good advice when running for POUS, or those otherwise wanting to avoid scandel.

Currently, there are 2 Republican adulterous senators "governing in Washington."
Sen. Vitter wore diapers with hookers in a prostitution ring.
Sen. Ensign had an affair with a married staffer who was paid $100K by Ensign's parents for "compensation."

Lisa Druck, AKA Reille Hunter, doesn't get it. When you leave trash outside on the curb, it is considered ABANDONED, unless there is a law prohibiting " trash picking."

You'd think people, especially Demoncrats, would have learned from the Rob Lowe experience of 1988 at the DNC Convention.

Ms. Druck is a public figure. She is also pretty saavy. Although originally from Florida, she moved to California, got married, lived in Beverly Hills and has "been around." You wanted notoriety, Ms. Druck, you got it!

Once again, be careful for what you wish for.

What I find horribly sad in the John Edwards saga, is that he chose his faltering political career over his child, even one born outside of his marriage. That he had a child with a woman who was not his wife is reprehensible, but John Edwards should have been 'man' enough to acknowledge his child right from the beginning.
Yes, there are plenty of women who purposely seek wealthy, popular or "powerful" men in order to get money and/or attention for themselves, with or without having kids with these men--and the women are just as repugnant as the married men who need the ego-trip that having a secret mistress gives them.

The kid's future tell-all book about his lovely parents will be a best-seller, for sure.

"Wow, even presidential candidates do sex tapes or was this done without his knowledge (which would be very creepy)."

This was done a la Monica Lewinsky: Save semen on a blue-stained dress for later monetary gain.

In Lewinsky's case, it was via a massive book deal she hoped to later pen. Apparently with Ms. Hunter, it was a tape she could use to extract money.

Either way, sex scandals in Washington are beginning to lose their lustre. What's new? But neither side has a lock on morality (Clinton, Cisneros, Edwards; Sanford, Ensign, Vitter).
