Peter Orszag, just engaged, acknowledges new baby with ex-girlfriend Claire Milonas

Life can be complicated. So it turns out for OMB Director Peter Orszag, who, just weeks before getting engaged to ABC correspondent Bianna Golodryga, became a new father -- via his ex-girlfriend.

Orszag, 40, and his ex, N.Y.C.-based venture capitalist Claire Milonas, 39, released a joint statement Wednesday acknowledging the birth of a daughter, after the New York Post reported that the Ivy-educated shipping heiress delivered Tatiana Zoe Milonas on Nov. 17.

The statement read: "We were in a committed relationship until the spring of 2009. In November, Claire gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Although we are no longer together, we are both thrilled she is happy and healthy, and we would hope that everyone will respect her privacy."

Orszag last week got engaged to Golodryga, 31, after about seven months of dating. A source close to Orszag (who has two kids from a previous marriage) told us his relationship with Milonas ended before he met the journalist at the White House Correspondents' dinner in May -- though a friend of Milonas's told us the breakup came later.

The romantic drama heightens the mystique surrounding President Obama's youngest Cabinet-level appointee, who, in a city full of wonks, enjoyed a brief unlikely reign as Washington's most eligible bachelor before his engagement.

Something about those Harold Ramis-in-"Ghostbusters" looks, on a 6-2 marathoner's frame, inspired Internet fan pages like Orszagasm.com. "He made nerdy sexy," Rahm Emanuel told the New York Times last year.

In 1997, while working for the White House's National Economic Council, Orszag married Cameron Hamill, then a Treasury aide. He later followed her to California when she entered Stanford Law School, where she was studying when they had the first of their two children. She now lives in Washington, where they share joint custody.

Looks like our budget guru is going to have some daunting private finance issues to deal with, in addition to public ones. Only in Washington would a bespectacled number-cruncher get a reputation as a stud.

This is not a story. No adultery, consenting adults and everyone involved seems fine with it. So am I.

"We were in a committed relationship" they said -- until they weren't. Character is destiny.

A year ago when Orszag first came to the public's attention he had a bowl hair cut and looked like a total dork. Now we learn he is a player who's dating all these exotic women. I guess smart is sexy.

Sounds like a sitcom from the housing projects. guess we'd better get used to it. BHO has shown, thus far, that morals and values are not real high on his list.

Who is this and why is this a story?

Posted by: forgetthis | January 7, 2010 9:12 AM | Report abuse

Orszag's fiancee must be annoyed, because now she realizes that he likely timed his proposal to get favorable press before news of his love child broke. (Or else his fiancee was in on the engagement planning.) This article says "The romantic drama heightens the mystique..." -- what a generous way to put it. What a media double standard! What if this had happened to a high ranking Republican?

Is being a low life sleazebag a requirement for a post in the obama admin.? This man is crass to say the least. Sounds like he could use a good butt kicking.

The new fiance should run - This is some ghetto mess. So if he has a baby with you Claire - he will have three baby mamas - Having an Ivy League Education does not make you smart and in this case - he is obviously DUMB!! Plus - this is a one term administration and she will leave you when you can't feed her inside information - this is the world you live in!! Duhhhhhh!
What a joke!

Wow, lots of bitter-sounding women responding. I guess the idea that these were all consenting adults and they are all fine with the outcome escapes some of you hags. Milonas is an Ivy-educated venture capitalist and an heiress. She's likely not crying in her pillow like some of your losers, certainly not as hard up. She's probably fine and wishes Orszag and his fiance well.

And yes, I'm a woman who happens to be an adult and realizes that adult relations can sometimes be complicated. Get over it, you bitter prunes. Deal with your own lives instead of judging the love affairs of others.

Peter, Peter, Peter. You could have had the best of both worlds. You could have "stayed" with the billionairess and kept the cutie on the side or vice versa. You are a busy man, working "long hours" for the President. You could have pulled this off easily. I'm wondering how clever and effective you are in your job at the WH.

Either way, this story is not news.

The tea-bagging goobers should bow down in thanks to Peter Orszag.

Unlike them, he is populating America with children who have educated, self-sufficient mothers who do not come from the shallow end of the gene pool.

Heck, what's the problem?

Ol' MESSIAH, he was nearly BANKUPT 10 years ago. Then ol' Wifey got a nice $400,000.00/year Univ. of Chic. Hospital job. Nice work, if you can get IDIOTS to pay you.

Harry S Truman once said, "when someone says they're going to help you, go home and lock the meat freezer."

Orzag and MESSIAH are Exhibits 1 & 2 of Harry's wisdom.

If you read the joint statement, nowhere does it say that Orszag is the father. It just says they were in a relationship and later Claire gave birth. Maybe he agreed to take the hit to protect her reputation from something more embarrassing.

Peter, if you are reading this, you have no character. Resign now for the good of the country.

Posted by: InTheMiddle | January 7, 2010 11:20 AM | Report abuse

To those who keep writing things like "everyone involved seems fine with it", please realize that you're leaving out all the children this "man" is producing. As the kids get older and their father is rarely around, tell me how "fine" things will be. Don't forget, he has yet another potential mother-to-be in his new fiance. The fiance should really think about whether she wants to give large chunks of the family income and, hopefully for the children, large chunks of her husband's time to the other families he has produced. I don't think she has any concept of the endless drama she is facing with two other women (and those women's future spouses/significant others and future children) and those women's children with Orszag as a permanent fixture in her life. Surely she can do better.

Bianna, make sure you hire a really good lawyer for your pre-nup.

something tells me you're going to need it... just make sure your lawyer is equal to his, or better.

and good luck keeping him from going astray LOL.

Posted by: yesnomaybe213 | January 7, 2010 12:13 PM | Report abuse

KatieAtl, maybe you should get back to your Amish farm because in the US of today, grown adults have lives and histories. Orszag's 3 children will be fine, like many children in America that deal with parents who don't remain together and are fine. Why don't you get back to your romance novels where everything is hunky dory and they stay together forever and ever? Or better yet, grow up.

Posted by: Pupster | January 7, 2010 12:23 PM | Report abuse

(2) bitter men who can't get any action.

LOL in short, LOOOO-zahs!

Considering the high ranking Republican likely would have been preaching how his family values were worthy of idolation prior to this happening, yes the Republican would have been labeled a hypocrite and ridiculed resoundingly.
.
The Dem's generally don't say they are the party of Moral Superiority so when they have lapses of judgment they are just that and not blatant hypocrisy as well.
.
For examples look at SC Gov Sanford or Nevada Sen. Ensign or LA Sen. Vitter or former Sen Larry Craig. Do we need to go on and on with the list of 'high ranking' Republican values preaching hypocrites who get caught doing the very things they preach against?

Pupster, how do you know the kids will be fine? Do you even have children? It obviously gives you joy to take a gratuitous swipe at the Amish and romance readers everywhere but you give no evidence other than your breezy opinion that the kids will be fine. Most studies link divorce with high poverty rates in children, lower performance in schools, and higher levels of depression and anxiety. I know the child of the Greek shipping heiress will be taken care of financially, but what about the other two and any future children Orszag has? He better get a higher paying job because it's unbelievably expensive to support two households (I'm leaving out the heiress)and (potentially, given the relative youth of his fiance)three sets of kids. It's also unbelievably draining to keep up with the time demands of a high profile job, a wife, and multiple children and multiple exes. Those of us who live in reality (and not a Friends episode)understand that.

The deficit, Orszag is saying,
Needs stimulus for its allaying;
He acts with aggression
To end the recession
By keeping his private outlaying.

KatieAtl: The point is that it's none of your business. They're his kids, and how he raises them is none of your affair and your dumb hysteria here only exposes how nuts you are. You know nothing about Orszag, his ex-wife, ex-girlfriend or any of his kids and yet you freely blather on about their possible 'damage'. Why don't you mind your own life and at the same time, spare us readers your inanity?

Seriously, get some therapy or something.

Posted by: Pupster | January 7, 2010 5:48 PM | Report abuse

Pupster: Are you also known as Peter Orszag? Only that can explain your extraordinary anger and defensiveness. Perhaps you need to up your meds before your head explodes. As for me, I'll comment where and when I choose and we obviously both feel this story (with a comments section attached) is comment worthy. Try to squelch your obvious desire to shut down those with whom you disagree. It only makes you look as intolerant as you probably are.
