Quoted: John Riggins on 'Sandy baby,' 25 years on

Sandra Day O'Connor (Marvin Joseph/The Washington Post) and John Riggins (Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post)

"We're linked together for life, which is good for me, but not so good for her."

-- John Riggins talking to Roll Call about the infamous drunken night, 25 years ago, he told Sandra Day O'Connor to "loosen up, Sandy baby." The former Redskins superstar also said it wasn't then-VP George H.W. Bush's speech that prompted him to pass out under the table at the Washington Press Club Foundation dinner: It was Sam Donaldson's. ("So boring ... I went down like a chunk.")
