Secret Services confirms report of 'third crasher' at White House state dinner

UPDATED 9:41 p.m.: Sources identify third crasher as D.C. party promoter Carlos Allen. Read more at fully updated story here.
***
The Secret Service announced this afternoon that a third crasher made it into the White House state dinner made famous by the uninvited Tareq and Michaele Salahi.
An agency spokesman wouldn't divulge the name or even the gender of the crasher, who appears to have made his or way in completely separately from the now-infamous horse-country reality-show hopefuls -- exposing a completely separate area of weakness in the perimeter around the president.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the uninvited guest gained entree with the official Indian delegation: "The subject traveled from a local hotel, where the official Indian delegation was staying, and arrived at the dinner with the group, which was under the responsibility of the Department of State... This individual went through all required security measures along with the rest of the official delegation at the hotel, and boarded a bus/van with the delegation guests en route to the White House."
And yet, this person was not on any list authorizing his or her presence at the White House. The Secret Service said they have already made "procedural changes" to deal with the way foreign delegations are cleared.
The agency also said there's nothing "to indicate that this individual went through the receiving line or had contact with the President or first lady." The White House had not yet responded to our inquiries about whether the interloper was seated at the dinner.
The Secret Service released their statement following a report by Ronald Kessler, a journalist who blogs at Newsmax.com. Kessler reported that the agency discovered the third crasher after examining surveillance video of arriving guests -- and found one tuxedoed man who did not match any name on the guest list.
Will update more as we learn it.

NAPOLITANO HAS GOT TO GO
yet MORE evidence of Napolitano idiocy, and add the NJ passenger who just walked through a guard and video camera--it was AGAIN a passenger who caught the breach
This is NOT a Dem or Republican issue--EVERYONE has friends or family flying at any given moment and there are MANY extremely partisian Dems who would make a GREAT Secretary of Homeland Security--
so PICK one Team Obama--ANY one
Will we have to wait until we see a mushroom cloud over the United States before Napolitano is relieved of duties????

Napolitano is now Past Tense
when President Obama determined there was "systemic failure" (which ProCounsel had expressed on Wash Po beginning on on December 26, 2009)
Napolitano is past tense
its now just a matter of time and she will be GONE
decision announcement delayed for 5 reasons:
1. to find a replacement
2. to complete the 2 day assessment figleaf
3. determine presidential approval effect on polls
4. so obama does not have to waste more vacation time now
5. to prepare his speech and horse trade with congress who want her gone

clearly, the Post has joined its fellow publications that are more interested in infotainment than serious reporting, but what is the real story here? Is it whether people who attended this event were invited or not, or is it whether people who got close to the President were properly screened or not? Well, of course, it is the latter. But if that was the Post's choice, it would have no story! That would be so sad, wouldn't it?

This is very serious. I have absolutely no love for Obama and his policies which punish working people like myself but I know if anything happens to him it will be one of the worst days in this country. I definitely do not wish him harm. With all the crazies out there who would love to kill an American President the secret service has really dropped the ball and placed him in great danger. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to them.

Why must such a security hole be trumpeted around the world? To what purpose? What end? This should be classified information. As long as the responsible parties are aware and steps being taken to eliminate a recurrence, there is no need for the general public to know. I am shaking my head in disbelief, here ... you can't write fiction like this.

I'm getting the feeling that there are some severe competency issues in the Secret Service. Issues that threaten national security. This is a long standing agency that has tended to transition well with administrations. Have we all wrongly presumed that they really do know what they are doing?

@33rdstreet,
Duh, part of the "screening" process is at least a cursory background check. The last time I was at the White House, my group was vetted a week in advance. So no, none of the uninvited guests was screened properly.

Perhaps many administrations have had their gate crashers, but mistakes do occasionally happen, even to professionals. And generally speaking, previous social secretaries seem to have been competent, discreet professionals, not narcissistic poseurs like Desiree Rogers.
Were she not an old Chicago buddy of the First Couple, Ms. Rogers would have been out the door weeks ago.

This is very serious. An attack on a sitting President, if linked to
a country, can literally be considered "an act of war." Even if you don't care for Obama, large scale civil and military unrest is potentially possible should the unthinkable happen. Napolitano should do what any good political appointee would do now. Place her resignation on the President's Desk. The safety of the President cannot be compromised.

LONDON (AP) -- British intelligence passed on to U.S. authorities information about a Nigerian accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner but he was not singled out as a particular risk, Prime Minister Gordon Brown's office said Monday.
Although certain information was exchanged, Abdulmutallab wasn't considered violent or a threat to the United States so he was not flagged as a high-risk suspect to U.S. authorities, a British government official told The Associated Press Monday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of his work and declined to elaborate on what information was shared.

Uninvited guest was a non-citizen on a diplomatic visa.
After poisoning a dignitary, any dignitary, escape to the country's embassy would have created a diplomatically complicated situation. We sure as hell would not permit the person to escape from there, and would likely seize the person regardless of diplomatic standing. But whether we over reacted would depend upon the rank of the dignitary. Confusion on the translation of titles (deputy assistant under-secretary, etc) would only make things worse in the international context.

The weakness of the perimeter around the president is not one of the big concerns of the American people. What Obama will say in his State of the Union address is a major concern to all U.S. citizens who have witnessed his failed liberal Democrat domestic and foreign policies.
Maybe Obama could claim peace and prosperity in the global realm as evident by the world’s tallest building and do you think that Dubai considered near by airports before deciding on the building location?
Not only does the Western civilized world have material wealth and conspicuous building edifications, but look what they did in these times of global economic recessions and woes.
Would Islam extreme groups want to target Dubai's tallest building as they did with U.S. Towers? Or, is it more of a Muslim Arab Islam against the Western imperialistic infidels to their Muslim religion.

Always someone else is the problem when the public is faced with clear and convincing Obama Administration ineptness and elite minded indifference as to it all.
Enough of that everyone. Enough of that!

It seems this country is now overloaded with mad fascist thugs who are merely paranoid about the guests at the Whitehouse than our freedoms being taken away from us every day that we create a new chain around our neck in the name of security. Many crazy comments and this news report reveal that we are no longer a nation of human beings; we are a nation of mad cowards: Cowards die many times before their death. What a shame !!!

What happened to the FAA tapes on the security breach on 9/11? These are worth investigating.

"Heck of a job, Obama" Libs....I know you'll all got nuts over that....BUT, OBAMA is responsible....nobody else....if he's not responsible, then he should resign.

imagine if one of these interlopers was wearing explosive underwear and exlpoded them at the white house.
They would've killed the POTUS, VPOTUS and many other government people.
This is not funny.
These fools in the obozo administration are not only endangering our country but all of us.
We need to get rid of these fools.

1. Threatening the President? NOT a good idea, ralphie boy.
2. The worst President in history is a tossup between DUMBYA, Warren G Harding and Richard Nixon.

I'm not sure quite how this reflects on Desiree Rogers or on Napolitano. While I agree that both probably deserve to be canned, this Indian delegation was cleared by the State Department, which is Hillary Clinton's turf. Homeland Security and the White House party planner...err...social secretary have nothing to do with handling foreign delegations. The State Department forgot to check a list and do a head count on the bus.
Not surprisingly, though, this kind of breach is actually the more dangerous. An unknown foreign national in the White House, even if with a friendly state delegation, is not a good thing.

The Secret Service used to be under the Treasury Dept. but when the Dept. of Homeland Security was reorganized in 2003, it absorbed the Secret Service. The director the Secret Service now reports directly to Secretary Janet Napolitano and her deputy.

This is scary. Is the Secret Service asleep at the wheel? Are they trying to get Obama killed?

"yet MORE evidence of Napolitano idiocy, and add the NJ passenger who just walked through a guard and video camera--it was AGAIN a passenger who caught the breach"
So, wait, a random security guard somewhere fails to do their job, and it's Napolitano's fault?
Clearly she should have sensed this failure and had herself beamed in to take control of security screening herself.

This is more scary than funny or amusing - this is just ridiculous! Who the hell is in charge? What ever happened to "The buck stops with me" - this administration continues to be a serious disappointment... We had such high hopes, but now it's like watching a high school student council run the country...
Very scary...
No offense meant to any high school students :-)

ProCounsel's response:
NOTHING is EVER Napolitano's fault.
Napolitano is NOT responsible for leaking the TSA security manuals on line
Napolitano is NOT responsible for failing to connect all the dots when the father turned in his son to the United States Ambassador in Nigeria
Napolitano is NOT responsible for her agents failing approved list reading 101 at the India State Dinner at the White House
Napolitano is NOT responsible for raiding journalists over the weekened to trace yet another leak
See Napolitano is IRRESPONSIBLE
Napolitano must GO and let Obama get someone--anyone--
who WILL be RESPONSIBLE

I resent the implications of "Ametuer Hour" at the White House. Most Amateur Radio operators could if called upon actually do something. We charge batteries a lot these days. If in doubt charge batteries. We're just itching to get the lithium batteries off the plug in hybrids.

What a ridiculous fascist fanaticism about so-called Security. Instead of diagnosing the cause of the problem, some our fanatics are engaged in partisan mud-slinging against the President and Janet Napolitano. It is a shame that we must share our citizenship with such fanatics.

People seem to forget that some of the Secret Service's rules related to Presidential Protection were changed in 1994 during President Clinton's reign. Doesn't anyone recall all the scandals back then about how they were relaxing the rules because Clinton couldn't get any of his staff through the security measures? They also changed the lifetime Secret Service protection for former Presidents at that time, it took effect in 1997.
We've all seen the effects of the relaxing of the standards over the past 15 years.

So how can we protect America if we can't even protect our own President?
This isn't the time for blame but for ACTION.

Back in Herbert Hoover's administration, a man with a loaded pistol somehow got into the State Dining Room where Hoover was having a meeting. Nobody was injured, and the gunman was taken out of the building. Were we really "a freer country then"?

If I had known it was that easy to get a meal at the White House, I would have gotten in line. This is not good...
