More John Edwards: Andrew Young says Elizabeth threatened to sue; John Kerry is 'shocked' and 'disappointed'

As it lurches to an end, the John and Elizabeth Edwards breakup is only getting uglier. After turning over copies of the sex tape allegedly made by the former senator and mistress Rielle Hunter in court Wednesday, Andrew Young told reporters Elizabeth has threatened to sue him for covering up the affair and damaging her marriage.

ABC News reported Thursday that she approached Young's legal team last week and threatened a lawsuit-- unless Young agreed to stop speaking publicly about the Edwardses' marriage, return voice mails she left for him, and donate $250,000 to the Wade Edwards Foundation, a nonprofit group named for her late son.

North Carolina is one of only seven states that allows third-party "alienation of affection" suits. Most are directed at the "other" man or woman; lawyers would have to prove Young maliciously helped to destroy a loving marriage.

No suit has been filed; Elizabeth Edwards has not responded to requests for comment.

But Sen. John Kerry, who picked his Senate colleague as his running mate in 2004, is finally talking.

"Honestly, it's a tragedy," he said in an interview with Larry King. "Everybody just feels awful about it, in terms of their family, their relationship that everybody saw publicly, the promise, the hope, you know, obviously a capable career."

Kerry said he has not spoken to Edwards recently, and that he was "shocked" and "obviously disappointed."

Elizabeth Edwards is not listening to the best advice. Even if her claim is 'legal' it is bizarre and unhinged.

Her beef is with her husband.

This is really smart. She's going after all the money Young is going to make by, first, helping her husband cheat, then writing a scandelous tell-all book victimizing her all over again.

Advice to Elizabeth. Take care of yourself and your children. Forget all others. do not respond to anything else being said. Your husband and Andrew Young deserve each other.

You didnt display to much character yourself when you were selling your book. Calling the baby "it" and saying it didnt look like your kids...so what? she doesnt have to. Go Elizabeth. Focus on your kids and your health. Enought talking. Oh and Jenny Sanford you go too!!!

John Edwards has destroyed the concept that in most cases an experienced politician is the place for a party to look for competence, integrity, morality and sacrifice in selecting a nominee for President. As a nation we continue to witness the ultimate political betrayal and infidelity by several in political life to a family, wife, and a great nation. The time is long overdue to look for servants who are common Americans that have served humanity through any number of professions. Tragically, imaging and hidden realities have kept many voters form knowing the true identity of some of the candidates seeking high office. Had Senator John Kerry been elected President, tragically John Edwards would have been a heartbeat away from the nation's highest office.

What a tragic gift he gives to his dying wife Elizabeth just in time for Valentine's day. John is apparently buying a multi million dollar home for his mistress and planning for their engagement and future life together. This is a ludicrous yet believable saga from a man apparently without any feeling. He has failed to keep the most solemn of oaths, namely that of his marriage vows. To John, love honor and to cherish till death do us part apparently was nothing more than a charade.

Americans have never forgotten the name of Benedict Arnold bringing to mind a traitor, betrayer and consummate liar. John Edwards is a name that will join Arnolds. He is a loser, plain and simple.

I agree 100% with sbeck1, who said...

Elizabeth, please, PLEASE take this advice. All you have left is your dignity, so please don't squander it on that which is beneath you.

When did John Edwards become an "experienced" politician? He never governed anything and the senate career he bought was, to be charitable, lackluster.

He is mostly yet another greedy, amoral, lawyer albeit one of the ones who got lucky with the tobacco settlement. There are several other self seeking jerks privately jetting about who fall into that category who haven't done much good.

It would seem he and this former New York bar "hostess" Rielle deserve each other. I only hope Child Protective Services keeps the baby on its radar screen. It will be tough being the only child of a disgraced old political hack and a bitter, desparate,
rancid, used up bar "hostess" regardless of how much money daddy's ex-wife's estate has.

Let's hope she favors Edwards so she at least might have the advantage of being pretty (or at least have good hair) rather then looking like a dingy bar rag. Rielle Hunter is pretty scary skanky.
