This just in: Causes of death for Brittany Murphy, Casey Johnson released by Los Angeles coroner
Actress Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia, the Los Angeles County coroner announced Thursday -- but prescription drug intoxication was also a factor.
A spokesman said Murphy's pneumonia was exacerbated by "secondary factors," including iron-deficiency anemia and multiple prescription drug intoxication. Specifics on which drugs were involved won't be known until the full autopsy report is released, in about two weeks. Murphy died on Dec. 20 at age 32 after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home, the Associated Press reports.
The coroner's office also released cause-of-death information about socialite/heiress Casey Johnson, who was found dead at age 30 on Jan. 4. Johnson's death was caused by diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition caused by lack of insulin and sky-high blood sugar (Johnson had been an insulin-dependent diabetic since childhood). Her autopsy report will also be available in two weeks, the coroner said.
