This just in: Bill Clinton to headline Gridiron dinner, Serendipity to take over empty Nathans space

For the second year in a row, President Obama is skipping the annual Gridiron Club white-tie dinner. Last year he was on spring break with his family; this time he'll miss the off-the-record press party for a trip to Indonesia, Guam and Australia. (Folks, maybe he's just not that into you?) But the March 20 dinner has a strong pinch hitter: former president Bill Clinton, who attended six times during his presidency; he'll sling one-liners with Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
A historic New York institution is replacing a historic Georgetown institution. Serendipity 3, the 55-year-old dessert parlor (featured in movies and TV), is coming to the Wisconsin Avenue and M Street space occupied by Nathans restaurant for 40 years, reports 2006 Miss D.C. Kate Michaels. Her boyfriend, Rodrigo Garcia, and his partner, Britt Swan, plan to open in late spring.
