  • Lil Wayne is finally in jail. After several delays (dental work, a fire in the courthouse), the rapper was sentenced Monday to serve a year on gun charges and taken in handcuffs directly from the N.Y.C. courtroom to begin his term.

  • Pl├ícido Domingo is at home recovering from colon cancer surgery. Doctors in New York removed a localized malignant polyp last week; the tenor has been ordered to rest for six weeks, although he'll continue working for the Los Angeles and Washington operas.

  • Sportscaster Frank Herzog, longtime voice of the Redskins, is retiring this month. In a memo to the WTOP staff Monday, Herzog, 65, said he has two grandchildren to spoil and a "wife who has endured, without complaint, 41 years of long seasons, frequent road trips and weird schedules."
