This Just In: Marie Osmond's son dies, Oprah gives Art Smith a big check, "Hurt Locker" producer in trouble with Academy Awards

Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son committed suicide Friday night, Los Angeles police confirmed Sunday. Michael Blosil, a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, died after jumping from his L.A. apartment building. "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael," Osmond said in a statement.

When Oprah asked former personal chef Art Smith what he wanted for his 50th birthday, he thought a treadmill might be nice. The talk show icon had bigger plans, and gave Smith a $250,000 check for his Common Threads nonprofit, which supports healthy eating programs for children -- the kind Michelle Obama asked for, reports the Associated Press.

A producer for the Academy Award-nominated "The Hurt Locker" has apologized for sending e-mails asking for last-minute votes for his picture instead of "a $500 million film" like . . .oh, "Avatar"? Nicolas Chartier broke academy rules by dissing a competitor and now faces sanctions, but the movie is still in contention for Best Picture on Sunday's show.

Another tragic lost at such a young age.
Depression is really getting out of hand and something needs to be done about it very soon.
I can relate with Marie Osmond and feel her lost and pain, I lost my lover Guillermo Sanchez back in 2003 at the age of 21 years old from an allege suicide and my prayers and heart goes out to Marie Osmond and her family.
I strongly believe that those anti-depression drugs are the cause of all these young people's death and something needs to be done about finding out what is causing all these young people to get depress in the first place and try to help them before they feel that taken their lives is the only way to go.
We must find out what is making them so depress.
I'm sure they feel that nothing in their lives will help, but we must try and save them regardless.

It's all about what Oprah wants, isn't it? She asks the guy what he wants for his birthday and then goes ahead and does something else. Maybe, just maybe, she coulda donated $249,000 and used the rest to give the guy the treadmill he asked for?
