A U.S. District Court jury in Washington on Monday found hairdresser Andre Chreky, who counted Laura Bush as a client, guilty of sexual harassment and awarded a former employee $2.3 million in damages.
Ronnie Barrett, a colorist who worked for Chreky, said he harassed her on multiple occasions, including a 2004 incident in which he allegedly shoved her down in a chair in his office and demanded oral sex. She was fired shortly thereafter and later filed suit. In a two-week trial, 14 witnesses testified on Barrett's behalf. Chreky, whose salon at 16th and K was one of the city's most popular, denied all the allegations.
And that's not the end: Another former employee, Jennifer Thong, has a harassment case against Chreky scheduled to start March 22.
