"The streets were so tied up, Michael Steele and the RNC paid $2,000 to watch."

-- Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) with a "how-bad-was-the-snowstorm" joke at the Washington Press Foundation congressional dinner Wednesday night (which honored our former colleague Dorothy Gilliam for lifetime achievement). The night's opposite-side speaker, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), talked up his 2012 prospects: "I'm trying to get over that all-important 3 percent mark in the straw polls."

Typical. Self-effacing conservative pokes fun at himself, while uptight liberal uses even light affairs to throw bombs at contemporaries.
