Gov. Mark Sanford romantic weekend in Florida---with Argentine "soul mate?"
Last week, Jenny Sanford unveiled new beau Clay Boardman at the White House correspondents' dinner. One week later her ex, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, had a romantic getaway with ... a tall brunette who looked a lot like his Argentine "soul mate."
The governor, who officially divorced in March, was spotted Sunday in the Florida Keys with an attractive woman resembling mistress Maria Belen Chapur. The couple were arm in arm at the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada, then seen having brunch in Key Largo, according to tipsters who blabbed to Gawker.
The governor's office was closed Monday (South Carolina celebrated Confederate Memorial Day), but Charleston's Post and Courier confirmed with the resort's PR rep that Sanford spent the weekend in Florida with an unidentified female. And, well, he is a single man now.
"The governor has long moved past discussing matters in his personal life publicly," Sanford spokesman Ben Fox told the paper.
Unlike last summer's Appalachian Trail fiasco, Fox said the governor was in regular contact with his staff during the weekend and paid for this trip personally. Last week, Gov. Sanford was cleared of all criminal or civil charges for travel expenses related to the affair after he paid fines and court fees involved in the investigation.
