Salahis stopped by Secret Service near White House on state dinner night

UPDATED: Thursday, 1 p.m. (see below) with details about "Inside Edition" camera crew trailing the couple.

UPDATED, Thursday 10:20 a.m.: Salahis limo stopped near White House Wednesday night.

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON -- The White House party crashers, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, were stopped in a limo near the White House Wednesday evening as President Barack Obama was holding his second official state dinner.

The limo driver ran through a red light around 8 p.m., just blocks from the White House and was stopped by a uniformed Secret Service officer, according to Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan. The driver had signaled to turn into a restricted area near the Ellipse. The attention-hungry couple was among those in the limo. They were released and went to dinner a few blocks from the White House after the incident. The limo driver was issued an infraction for running the red light.

Original post at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday:

Hey, isn't that...?

Tareq and Michaele Salahi having a state dinner of their own Wednesday night, it seemed, at Kellari Taverna on K St. . . . just four blocks from the White House, as the Obamas were hosting their first state dinner since, well, you know, that last one. Small world! The infamous White House crashers and future reality TV stars (she in a fur coat, high heels) had several friends joining them at the Greek restaurant, and few cameramen.

UPDATED Thursday, 11:30 a.m.
Big night for the Salahis. After Kellari, the veteran crashers showed up with their party of 20 or so at the newly opened Buddha Bar DC at around 9:30 p.m. Witnesses report they had two or three cameramen filming them as they dined on beef tenderloin and sushi. It appears the Salahis' limo was stopped before they went to Kellari. Donovan told the AP that the Secret Service stop came around 8 p.m.

UPDATED Thursday 1 p.m.:
Who were those cameramen following the Salahis on this latest escapade? Seems it's not Bravo's "Real Housewives of D.C." team, which mostly wrapped its filming several months ago. Instead, it was TV's "Inside Edition," which has been hyping an upcoming segment featuring the Salahis. (It's scheduled to air locally Friday at 9 a.m. on WUSA-9.) This teaser on their Web site explains it all: "You won't believe what the Salahis will be doing when the Obamas host their second White House state dinner. On the D.C. party circuit with the notorious Salahis!"

(Bravo execs have consistently declined to comment on the production or the likely cast, which includes the Salahis, though it's expected they'll officially unveil the show soon.)

To the extent the Salahis are famous for living way beyond their means, they are perfect icons for the Oboobma era.

I'm not sure how the Salahis having dinner at a Greek restaurant qualifies as news.

The article on their request for an apology from the White House was cute.

Let's not forget that they're not really stars, and their 15 minutes are up.

Please restrict further coverage to criminal proceedings and the disbanding of any charities or tax dodges.

Loooooooooosssers. This white trash couple haven't figured that out yet. If only they paid their debts with the fervor that they pay their publicists.

I'm actually surprised they didn't hold their own Mexican state dinner at Taco Bell. Bet that is the only place where their credit is good.

I am confused...did all of the investigations (e.g., Commonwealth of Virginia charity fraud) and financial claims against them just go "poof" and disappear? My sense was that they had no real assets and limited cash. Are people still underwriting their lifestyle with the hope that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Are they still evading process servers and lawyers?

Now I'm starting to think they're doing it on purpose.

Posted by: postfan1 | May 20, 2010 11:03 AM | Report abuse

They probably stiffed the staff at the Greek restaurant like they did the bartender at The Hay Adams.

The more I think about it, the more I think Tareq Salahi is crazy to the point of being dangerous. He is so completely divorced from reality. She just seems weary, very weary.

I believe you are on target.
These people have a problem.
What in the world was their limo doing so close to the White House that they were turning into a "restricted area"?
Sounds to me like they were casing the possibility that they might want to try to do it again.
They need to be on a leash.
As for their other troubles, I'm sure those problems are nowhere near resolved.

Actually, it is the FAUX Republicans who are notorious for living beyond their means. Why do you think Bush and Obama had to give them all the recent welfare money to bail out their businesses? The Republicans are the biggest welfare recipients of all times!

And, by the way, what all did you put into the generic basket to call "liberals"?? Bush was one of the MOST "liberal" of all times, the last of the big spenders, hopefully! He never saw a spending bill he didn't like. Is his type the "liberals" you refer to? You need to clarify your ignorance by being a little more specific. Actually, if YOU had a tuxedo, you'd be right there with the low class party crashers, I'm sure. T-shirts won't make it for sure. You sound like one of the low income, low education, "republicans?" who certainly doesn't qualify as a multi-millionaire REAL Republican, so apparently always votes AGAINST himself!

Odd that two persons who entered the White House without proper credentials weren't jailed or fined. Had they looked and dressed like "street people" they wouldn't have made it to the gate. One does wonder how these folks can get away with that behavior; most law-abiding citizens wonder about these seeming security lapses and don't think they're particularly comic.

Posted by: suzeq | May 20, 2010 2:45 PM | Report abuse

These people are scumbags as are the people who associate with them; you are the company you keep. They would do anything for their own personal gain. I see them in jail in the not too distant future. Karma will catch up to them.

Excuse me, but why is any reputable newspaper printing this???

There is one -- and only one -- way to get rid of these people and their disgusting antics: Ignore them.

What if they pulled a publicity stunt -- and nobody came?? Not a single photographer. Not a word in print (or on TV, or twitter, or whatever). Let the "media" just ignore them completely, and let their lives become trivial, banal, boring, unexceptional, and of no interest to anyone other than themselves. The perfect punishment.

The videos on the website for the alleged 2010 polo match in DC is comedy gold! Missy just squirms with glee whenever she's on camera.

She reminds me of a narcissitic personality disordered former coworker. Attention was like a drug for her. She really seemed intoxicated after being in front of a crowd.

Funny thing that nobody wants to talk about. The Salahis are Palestinian backers and that is how Obama met them. They just don't advertise that and news organizations like the Washington Post won't investigate anything the State Media Collective censors in the Regime don't preapprove.

Not that the Washington Post is a bunch of shills for the Regime...

Posted by: Reesh | May 20, 2010 4:47 PM | Report abuse

They need to be thrown in jail. Their desire for publicity is only getting worse, and their attempts to get into restricted White House property are ridiculous. Surely there are multiple acts they've done which warrant either jail time, fine, or both.

What I've been curious about is, just exactly who are these "friends" the Salahis are supposedly seen with? I presume they were just picked up off the streets to act either as extras or window dressing, since logic would suggest that Tareq & Michaele have few or no genuine friends left anymore.

A line from the movie "Craig's Wife" seems to sum things up well: "People who live to themselves are often left to themselves."

In another article from the Wall Street Journal they included an excerpt where Inside Edition reporter asked Michaele Salahi whether all the publicity surrounding their White House gate crashing has hurt her reputation, Mrs. Salahi replied, “I know who I am and that helps sustain me …that’s what’s helped get me through all the name calling—‘fame whore’ and all of that.”

Really? She knows who she is? Missy, Michelle, Michaele aka Former Miss America, Redskins cheerleader,Victoria's Secret,Chanel, Elle,Vogue, InStyle Magazine model? *eyeroll* This woman is seriously delusional along with her Husband..I'm not sure who's worse here...
