Love, etc.: Chely Wright comes out; David Boreanaz admits affair

Chely Wright, in the late '90s. (Mark Tucker)

  • Coming out: Singer Chely Wright, 39, who declared this week to People and "Access Hollywood" that she's gay. Best known for '90s hits "Shut Up and Drive" and "Single White Female," she's the first mainstream country star to come out. (So that's the mystery subject of the awaited People outing story this week; excited blog speculation had centered on bigger names.) Wright says she hid her sexuality to make it in showbiz; long-ago ex Brad Paisley never had a clue. BTW, she's also promoting an album and memoir.

  • Confessing: Actor David Boreanaz, who told People on Monday he has cheated on his wife of nine years, but wants to come clean about it now, after an ex-mistress threatened to go to the press. How else to thwart extortion threats? Uh, don't cheat in the first place?

The reason Chely Wright needs to have her book published now is because the New York publishing world is more bigoted than Mahmud Ahmadinejad. There are no "fagolas" in Iran and there are no openly lesbian writers, with more than one token homo in a novel's plot line published by a mainstream publishing house.
Literature apartheid is alive and well at Barnes and Noble. It's called the "Gay and Lesbian Literature" section. It could be a travel guide or cook book, but if the author is gay and not a celebrity, they are sent to a small gay publishing house, if they want to get their book in print, regardless of quality of writing, storyline, etc. They are stereotyped as niche literature and forced to the back of the bus.

Dear misunderstood red necks, never let a New York liberal criticize a good 'ole boy or girl who has the decency to be an honest bigot. Bravo to Chely Wright! How sad that Manhattan’s Publisher Row is so antiquated. The seven sisters should be called hypocrites row, since most acquisition editor’s paychecks have come off the back of countless famous American gay authors; Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Walt Whitman, Willa Cather (Laura Bush’s favorite author), etc...
These great literary figures just couldn’t include gay characters in their works. Nothing has changed in hundreds of years. What the elite class of “liberals” who run the print world do to gay authors is exactly what Hollywood did to black actors. Whites could don “black face” and garnish roles of African Americans.
Straight authors make millions writing about gays, just like straight actors and actresses do playing them. The print world wonders why it’s in trouble; maybe because they are crippled with the belief that it is contagious through the pages. They know gay characters really sell by just watching Hollywood. That’s why straights gobble up all the gay roles, stereotyping the hell out of us.
New York, step up to the plate. End literature apartheid. Start publishing lesbian authors who are good story tellers. Only they know how to tell a story from the authentic viewpoint of a gay person. The rest is just exploitation, covered with the blanket of acceptance.

David was suckered by Tiger Woods mistress who lays them then blackmails them. It worked with Tiger. Fortunately David was scared to death of this preditor when she threaten to blackmail him and went straight to his wife. I am sure he and his family is suffering with the discust of the preditor's deliberate hunt. Men, wise up. If it wasn't blackmail, it could have been aids or herpes or worst.

Posted by: MissClarty | May 4, 2010 3:09 AM | Report abuse wow, this woman will stop at nothing to promote herself....her calculated support of the military is a scam to only further her own career, then she starts a charity that is supposed to give music instruments to kids but is truly yet another vehicle to further her career and now she is using her sexuality to further her career to the gay and lesbian audience that she is now going after. She's a poser and so easy to see that. Too bad. Media should drill deeper before helping her with her shameless promotion and pr campaign.
