Mika Brzezinski and mom, getting literal about the family tree at artsy book party
Can't say the Brzezinski women are shy about expressing their opinions. MSNBC's morning queen, Mika Brzezinski, teamed up with her artist mother Monday night at American University's Katzen Arts Center: Mika promoting her book "All Things at Once," Emilie showing her "Family Trees" installation, an exhibit of hollowed-out tree trunks with photos of her husband, children and extended family.
Throughout her marriage to national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, Emilie pursued her career as a sculptor. "She was always quite clear this was an important part of her," said Mika. "She carved her way -- literally." Her mother, she said, was the inspiration behind the book -- but that doesn't mean they always agree.
Mika hated the candid photo her mother picked for her tree trunk: "My sister-in-law's looks fabulous. Must be a mother-daughter thing." Emilie was unmoved: "They have nothing to say about it."
