Quoted: Miguel Batista on meeting Miss Iowa

"Hopefully she says, 'Oh, he was a cool guy. He looked like a low-budget Vin Diesel, but he's nice.' "

-- Nationals pitcher Miguel Bastista anticipating his meeting with Miss Iowa USA Katherine Connors, who will throw out the first pitch at Friday's game, reports our colleague Adam Kilgore. Batista accidentally insulted the beauty queen Tuesday when he joked about what it was like to step in for Stephen Strasburg: "Imagine if you go to see Miss Universe, then you end up having Miss Iowa, you might get those kind of boos."

So now do the Nats have to invite Vin Diesel to throw out a first pitch?

Batista seems to be a pretty witty guy. Maybe when he's done with his pitching career he can replace that tool Dibble.

I was at Nationals Park Tuesday night, expecting to see Stephen Strasburg. I was disaapoined to hear just before the game that he would not be able to pitch due to soreness in his shoulder. I'm sure that reaction was what Miguel Batista was referring to, and not the disappointment of meeting Miss Iowa. She seems to be a very lovely young woman, and she is being very gracious about the whole situation.
I hope she throws a strike tonight. I'm just sorry I won't be able to attend the game and see her in person.
