Joe Miller caught putting the tweets before the votes
What a week for GOP Twitter slips! First Meghan McCain tweeted she was partying in Las Vegas when she was supposed to be speaking at Juniata College. On Wednesday, Joe Miller implied that he'd all but won Alaska's Senate seat -- six weeks before the election.
Miller, the tea party candidate who beat Lisa Murkowski in the primary, was fundraising in Washington when he sent out some presumptuous tweets: "Think I'll do some house hunting while I'm in DC" . . . "Guess I should pick up some office furniture, as well" . . . "Then there's the matter of a name plaque for the door." He ended with one last thought: "My sincere appreciation for the warm welcome, including from future colleagues in DC."
The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before write-in contender Murkowski's team weighed in ("hubris") and Democratic candidate Scott McAdams wrote, "While you're in DC picking out office furniture, I'm in Anchorage introducing my plan to get Alaskans back to work."
Miller's campaign explained away the gaffe Thursday: The tweets came from a campaign volunteer who had access to Miller's account, spokesman Randy DeSoto told the Associated Press.
