This just in...: Virginia Thomas wants apology from Anita Hill; Steven Slater, rogue airline attendant, pleads guilty

UPDATED: See latest story, Virginia Thomas seeks apology from Anita Hill

Clarence and Virginia Thomas (Charles Dharapak/AP)

  • The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas reached out to Anita Hill asking her to apologize for accusations of sexual harassment during his 1991 confirmation hearing. Virginia Thomas left a voicemail over the weekend saying, in part: "I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband," according to ABC News. In a statement to the New York Times, Thomas said that her call was an "olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get past what happened so long ago." Hill, now a professor at Brandeis University, has turned the message over to campus officials and declined to comment.
  • The flight attendant who shot to stardom in August after he acted out the ultimate take-this-job-and-shove-it fantasy pleaded guilty Tuesday in New York to two counts of attempted criminal mischief, the Associated Press reports. Steven Slater, who cursed out a passenger and deplaned via the emergency chute with a beer in hand, will avoid jail time by submitting to a year of court-mandated substance-abuse treatment.

Virginia Thomas is asking for Anita Hill to apologize for accusations of sexual harassment "and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband," ???

WTF ??? Is Virginia Thomas that clueless?

Pssst Virginia, Anita Hill did what she did because your husband is an abusive ans sexually perverted misogynist that should have never been appointed to the Supreme Court and should have been impeached long ago. Does that clear things up for you, BTW when you going to kick his sorry cheating a$$ to the curb?

Prof. Hill should take out a restraining order against the Thomases demanding that they not contact her nor talk about her publicly. The fact that both continue to bully and harass her 20 years later is proof that Justice Thomas is guilty of all the things Prof. Hill accused him of at his confirmation hearings. Both Thomases are sociopaths, Mrs. Thomas is clearly a stalker.

The Virginia Thomas story is weird in the extreme in this year of extreme weirdness. Why is she harrassing Anita Hill 19 years after the controversial hearings? Surely her husband (whom I believe did do what Miss Hill said) doesn't want this renewed publicity about his alleged sexual harrassent of Hill. Mrs. Thomas, if you want an apology from someone, look no further than the inside of your own home.

I'm sorry to live in a country where Clarence Thomas is charged with interpreting Constitutional law.

I think now we can see why someone would be attracted to someone of the caliber of Clarence Thomas enough to marry him and stay with him. Birds of the slimiest feather flock together.

If you ever neeeded proof that tea-baggers/'pubes are more than just a little whack, here is yet another nugget. I fear for our nation when I see poll numbers that look to put people just like uncle tom's wife into congress. Our country cannot stand anymore idiots making decision in DC, not after the w./'pube congress of 2000-2006.

With all due respect, Mrs. Thomas is exhibiting behavior that may be the result of self-loathing and isolation. Rather than calling Anita Hill, she and Justice Thomas should seek medical attention before their condition worsens. In the meantime, other Justices need to intervene before the Court becomes further damaged by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas behavior. A possible remedy may require Thomas' removal from the court if medical professionals determine there is no cure for their condition. Respectfully submitted.

Did Mrs. Thomas suddenly find out what happened 20 years ago, like she didn't know it before now? I'm pretty sure she was close by during the confirmation interrogations.

What exactly is the purpose of demanding an apology now for something that allegedly happened more than 20 years ago, and might have been the truth anyway?

Mrs. Thomas needs to find something new to do with her time. The drunken socialite lunches must have gotten boring.

Wow. Apparently I need to dig back up one of those "I believe Anita" shirts.

There . . . .I've said it again. And NO, Mrs. Thomas . . .. I won't apologize for saying it now, nor will I apologize for saying it 20 years from now. Don't call me, don't 'send me a message' through a newspaper reporter.

I didn't think "Justice" Thomas had a chance of finding someone as stupidly self-indulgent and egocentric as he is, but this seems to be a perfect marriage. Did Rush make this match? High-tech [pi]nching!

Well, yes, Virginia, blonds do have more fun! Apparently, this wife is raising money for the Tea Party ladies and she has decided that she can make some bucks off of her husband! Wow, forget the witch stuff...this really is more fun!

Poor Clancy. Here he is with this tough job of having to pretend to be paying attention almost without ever talking or asking a question, yet ready to do whatever Big Tony Scalia orders.

Then, after a rough day he comes home to the little woman and, after opening his favorite beverage (a Coca-Cola, of course) and innocently asks: "So, Ginnie, what did you do today?"

I always thought you had to be crazy to marry Clarence Thomas.

Good grief. Is Ginny a jackass or what? Stop; that's a rhetorical question. Of course she is!! My Granny always said, "There's a top for every pot".

She would be lucky if all Dr. Hill did was take out a restraining order(thanks andycyber)against her. What she really needs is a slap in the face and a good old-fashion country butt-whuppin'.

We believe you, Anita.

The real question is why hasn't Clarence Thomas apologized to Anita Hill.

It is his (lack of) character, stupid!

Wow, wow and wow! Mrs. Thomas should be the poster person for lack of judicious thought. What sane person would shake that can of Coca-cola - again!

Just when you think you have heard everything. I think Anita Hill should take out a restraining order on Mr. & Mrs. Thomas as well. The nerve of her calling her on her job and she sounded so simple. I guess she can join hands with the likes of Sarah Palin, O'Donnell, Angle, and Brewer.

What a colossal blunder! How rich! What nerve! Just when you think you have heard it all along comes Ginny Thomas. There is something here that we cannot fathom and that is motive. Rad repubs always have an agenda. As far as her seat warming husband goes, he should be thrown off the bench.
Whatever Anita Hill can do to them for this outrage I am all for it. I remained glued to my seat during the confirmation hearings and do believe Ms. Hill.

This is a slap in the face to all Black women. Why should Anita Hill apologize for being sexually harassed by a Black man who is married to a White woman??? Miss Ann, you never cease to amaze me. Virginia Thomas, you need to get in touch with reality and accept your husband as the pervert he is. In fact, he should apologize to Ms. Hill for the years of abuse she suffered from him because I believe every allegation she made against him!!!

Posted by: osmith98 | October 20, 2010 11:02 AM | Report abuse

There was, an is, no real evidence that Thomas ever harassed Anita Hill.....especially in the manner she says he did. Thomas has been the target of the Democratic, left-wing Black community ever since he has been in public life, simply because his politial views don't happen to toe their line. They attempted to derail his Supreme Court nomination (using Anita Hill), and have been pouring out hate against him ever since.

I fully agree with Virginia Thomas. Apologize, Anita, RIGHT NOW,......and no more excuses why you can't.

Clarence Thomas wanted to bed a real woman who could actually move her hips instead of the missionary style obese one he had at home. Mrs. Thomas could not find a white man who wanted her so she took Clarence "Self Hating" Thomas as a husband. He was, is, and will always be a token pawn of the Repugnicans doing their bidding with their puppet master hand up his behind. He is in the same category as Michael Steele, Sarah Pailin for women and Marco Rubio for Latinos. I want to be like you so let me think I am and I will do anything to be in the massahs house. Sad actually but also causing our country great pain. Dubya wold not have been able to steal the election and then maybe we would not have record deficits, hundreds of thousands of dead thousands of our own kids maimed, the constitution torn to shreds. Lets not forget the Citizens United decision which has put our government on the auction block. All politicians should be required to wear Nascar uniforms with the patches of who really owns them on them and don't come with the cute mysterious names like Citizens for Progress or similar. Clarence Thomas is a perv who is a stain on our country period and his piggy wife should shut her pie hole since she has nothing of value to add to the nations discourse.

When the hearings took place, I thought Anita Hill was either crazy (to make such lurid allegations) or totally honest (to make such lurid allegations and jeopardize her career). Nothing in between those thoughts...and I think only two people know what really happened: Hill and Thomas. As far as Mrs. Thomas goes, this incident happened to her husband at his workplace and she has absolutely NO business contacting anyone who worked with him to discuss an incident that happened to HIM. It would be just as ridiculous if Clarence contacted someone where his wife worked to discuss an incident at her workplace.
