Sarah Palin's new book: All the juicy parts

By The Reliable Source

(Harper Collins via AP)

Take a Sarah Palin stump speech, expand it to 272 pages, and you've pretty much summed up "America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag." Palin's latest tome officially comes out next Tuesday, but we snagged one of the copies that went rogue. There's a lot about faith and flag, not nearly enough about the Palin family -- but we mined a few nuggets:

  • Her pet peeve? Talentless wannabes: "Did you ever wonder where the producers of 'American Idol' come up with the seemingly endless supply of people who can't sing but are deluded enough to get up in front of a national television audience and screech out a song anyway? ... These self-esteem-enhanced but talent-deprived performers eventually learn the truth." But she loves "Dancing with the Stars" and says Bristol joined "to challenge herself in a new, fun way."

  • She revives the Dan Quayle-"Murphy Brown" debate about unwed mothers: Although her daughter got pregnant outside of marriage, she paid a price and tries to help other girls with her abstinence message. "Given the choice of role models between Bristol and Murphy Brown, I choose Bristol."

  • She likes the "subversive moral messages" in the movies "Juno," "Knocked Up," and "The Forty-Year-Old Virgin": "A European movie might have had Juno get her abortion in the opening scene and then spend the next hour and fifteen minutes smoking cigarettes and pondering the meaning of life. It would have been depressing and boring."

  • No love lost for Bristol's ex, Levi Johnston, or reporters: "The lies told about our family on national television were outrageous. ... More than once, I thought, 'How could this be worth it? Let's just go back to Wasilla and stop feeding the media beast.' " Obviously, she didn't.

  • Unlike the baby daddy, she spent the day in the delivery room when grandson Tripp was born: "Because the new father wasn't there until the end of Bristol's labor, I helped deliver Tripp."

  • She's very proud of "beautiful, strong" Bristol: "She went to college. And worked full time. And took care of a needy, colicky baby ... She worked as hard as any young single mother could possibly work." (Before "DWTS," Bristol worked as a medical assistant in a dermatologist's office and enrolled in business classes at community college -- but told People it was "nearly impossible" to do both.)

  • She gave up chocolate for a year to prove she could do it: "I believe this feeling of accomplishment is what everyone is created to crave."

  • She bagged a caribou in the Alaskan tundra this fall: "I eat, therefore I hunt!" she writes. "I often explain that the meat we eat is wrapped in fur instead of the cellophane that customers purchase in grocery stores."

Here is a juicy tidbit for Amy and Roxanne, so maybe they will get a clue: If Sarah Palin published a book with 272 blank pages with her name and picture on the dustjacket, it would be a best-seller. Can you guess why? Because Sarah has millions of fans who love her, and want her to have a best-seller. Do you know any other authors who evoke the same sort of response?

Can you say 'wannabee' college studetn (sic)' at how-many-campuses, or small Gov of AK (a really big state with a tiny population), or (drumm roll, and Hail-to-the-Chief, please) Prez of USA, with a straight face??? Impossible only for an under-motivated young woman whose mommy still supports her and her kid(s?)
I went to college full-time----getting a Bachelor's Degree in 2 1/2 years, worked part-time during the school semesters, worked full-time during school breaks, had a grade school aged special needs child.

Now Bristol has been away from her kid(s?) for a few months, playing princess dress-up while learning that mommy has bought her a 'victory' on DWTS. She hasn't yet 'done' anything by herself, for herself.

This book shows that the Palins are a bunch of uncultured Eskimos hillbillies. They have no decent education, no social class, no fine taste, no decent family pedigree. They are a bunch of stinking trash as the book portrays. Compared that to our great President who is Ivy League educated.

People like us are highly educated, highly cultured, highly civilised, highly developed, well-born, well-nurtured and well-bred should never be allowed to be led by those Wasilly trash. America is the land Of the Best, By the Best, and For the Best. We are simply the Best and those filthy trash like the Palins are simply the worst.

America has become such a great country because we have never allowed cheap serfs like those Wasilly Hillbilly ever become our leaders. India becomes a great civilisation because they keep those uncultured Untouchables caste at the bottom of the society. We should continue to follow the great foot-steps of our Indian mentors to suppress those untouchable Wasilly Hillbilly at the very bottom of our feet forever. Low-life Hillbillies like the Palins are only worthy to clean my toilets and polish me loos.

I am utterly disgusted by these Untouchables trash. These unpolished, uncivilised barbarians are born to be led, not to lead.

    b. she believes it

Do I know of any other author who can evoke that response? I can think of many others who can outsell Palin with a book of blank pages: any great looking sexy man or woman out there like any of the most good looking movie star or model with the inclination and the barest minimum of intellectual eligibility for a presidential candidate, have them run for president, and then have them publish a book. I can guarantee it will be a best seller regardless of the quality.

tmbodok you make a great point! Silly things like experience, intelligence, and temperment should never factor into who we choose to be lead us.

In fact, to counteract this incredibly unfair class warfare that is taking place, all civil servants should be replaced by the homeless! Surely no one knows the problems facing our great nation better than these courageous but downtrodden people!

Unlike the clueless critics of the Palins, I happen to like and support her because I actually took the time to learn what she is all about. So what if she didn't toe the left-wing feminist agenda. That doesn't make any less of a supporter of the real needs of America's women.

The current media darling is dragging this country down....but he sure sounds good in front of a teleprompter.

Why don't you stop relying on the mainstream media, DNC talking points and Moveon.org for your knowledge of Sarah Palin? Look at her without bothering with any bias and you will find that your view of her will be much more positive in the end.

All you need to know about Sarah (four schools in five years) Palin is her intellectual laziness and hypocritical value system. She claims to be a Christian and then goes about regularly making un-Christian comments about other people especially her foes. Talk about revenge as a part of her persona.

But nowhere are her values more on display than in the raising of her children, from Bristol who easily gave into the pleasures of the flesh rather than hitting the books, to Willow who at a young and tender age makes homophobic slurs showing how easy is to discriminate and make fun of other different people when you are brought up in the "warmth" of the Palin household.

She has no idea what the constitution is all about and her defense of freedom is very simple, either agree with her or she will stomp on your rights, as example: Freedom of religion...Strike 3..

She keeps saying that President Obama had no preparation to be president. And she does---with 1/2 term as a government of a state with few people?

I really think the woman has found her calling, as a stand up comic. Tho, I doubt if she could do that if she did not have the political element to fall back on.

As a Republican I have been honored through the years to have outstanding friends and mentors in political life. Congressman and former Vice Presidential candidate Jack Kemp (deceased), House Republican Leader Robert Michel, Congressman and Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, and a Democratic Governor Reubin Askew, have all been excellent role models of integrity and resolve for me. Unlike our former Vice President Quayle they all knew how to spell, speak and write quite effectively in the public arena.
Currently, the media buzz seems all about the former Governor of Alaska who also has some difficulty with some of the aforementioned basic skills. We are a scant two years away from a Republican nominee for our nation’s highest office. I have waited months for one of the GOP rising celebrities to hold Sarah Palin accountable for her past and present off handed remarks. I have chosen personally to break this silence by stating openly that I have yet to read Sarah’s Plan for leading and governing this great nation. “By gosh and golly” maybe fine as acceptable clichés but we as a nation are need of rhetoric birthed of substance and serious deliberation.
The American dream must be restored and this will only occur as a result of careful planning and consultation by the President with the American people. I am a theory Y person and like Douglas Macgregor I believe that talent, intelligence and incredible creative skills are broadly distributed within the American public. American ingenuity, individualism and free enterprise are akin to the eternal flame, they will never be extinguished, and Freedom’s gift to each of us remains the liberty to speak, think, serve, and achieve the very best since we are Americans. I believe that we citizens must lead the world by our firm resolve and transparency.
Recently, a member of the press made me aware of the fact that Sarah Palin would not grant an interview to most journalists. The Presidency requires ongoing discussion and negotiation with many of our fellow Americans and international neighbors. Frankly, I realize that not everyone is qualified to be President of the United States. In the end only the American voters can make the decision about the occupant of our highest office. I do agree with former President Harry Truman however that the highest honor that can come to anyone is to be called an American citizen.
Our challenges as a nation can be met and overcome with the determination of the American people. Unemployment, huge deficits, excessive government regulation-taxation, crime in our cities-towns, terrorism at home and abroad, loss of earning power, international rogue states, are serious problems that require highly intelligent public servants.
Sarah Palin seems quite comfortable with media and her daily involvement. Yet, as a conservative I await her cogent plan for this nation. I will not take her candidacy seriously without such a document. Until I read and have a chance for input, AGP

Sarah Palin: The mother of ALL WANNABES! Two years until the presidential election, I don't think I can tolerate her screeching for two years!

Sarah Palin is beautiful, and she certainly has charisma. However, that does not make her qualified for the presidency! She has no education, no knowledge, no wisdom, no understanding of issues, no understanding of foreign policy, and a total disregard of the facts. She is JUST NOT SMART ENOUGH to be president!

She is even a LOT DUMBER than george w. bush, and he went to Ivy League colleges! Look what HE did to our country, look how foreign leaders felt about HIM, to this day! 27% approval rating when he left office!

Remember george w. bush, a Vietnam War Draft-dodging Texas National Guard enrolee who went AWOL becoming our COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF! How ironic!

If Palin, by some miracle should become president, imagine HER as COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF!

Now if Palin, along with her beauty had Hillary Clinton's BRAINS and background, then, she would be hard to beat!

Sarah Palin should be what she is--a celeberity personality, not a politician.

Some politicians are so self-deceptive. As a politician, I see Palin as someone who hasn't even successfully completed one term in statewide office. The people of Alaska "refudiated" her by making the Senator running against the candidate she endorsed the first Senator in history elected in a write-in vote.

Palin should continue to do what she does well. Be political celebrity.

Only in a country in the obvious throes of social, economic and cultural decline could a "talentless wannabe" publicly decry talentless wannabes and get oodles of sycophantic, suckup coverage from a mainstream media that has so soilet itself that no one in the world takes it seriously anymore.

Look. Sarah Palin is a symptom of our decline. You think the rest of the world doesn't know this? You think it is just Obama and his policies that are making the rest of the world look at America askance these days. Nooo my friends. It is Palin, the Tea Party, the state of the republican party in general which no longer even pretends that it has to have some sort of governing agenda, and the state of the American media which has been "Murdoch-ized" into some bizarre Rush Limbaugh-like talk show replete with all of its silly, infantile mythologies posturing as news and ambulance chasing every juicy rumor the crazies on the right come up with.

This is Rome in the days of Caligula with the topsy turvy exception that Caligula in this case is the hero and the Senate is the morally, ethically depraved institution who along with a media careening into its own moral abyss, is giving the public the bread and circus idiocy of the Palins. We all know the inevitable outcome of this Shakespearian tragic farce.

News flash, she just published a blank book. The longer she remains on the stage the more obvious it becomes, at her age she doesn't have too much depth and so she has to wade around in the shallow end looking for cheap, easy platitudes to fill the empty vessel.

The only thing her fans are doing is making her very rich on their dime. I bet she snickers about it every time she deposits another check.

She supports liberty, lower taxes, smaller government, the Constitution, gun rights, energy independence, strong defense, and vigorous prosecution of the war on terror. The humorous yet cynical tone of this piece is almost undermined by all the spelling/editing mistakes (i.e., "others girls," "How could this we worth it," "as s medical assistant," the confusing use of two sets of double quotes in the Levi Johnston paragraph). If there weren't so many writing/editing mistakes, I would question whether the spelling mistakes in Palin's quotations were her own. The errors take away from the holier-than-thou tone of the piece, unfortunately.

The dumbing down of America will be best exemplified if Palin runs and wins the Presidency in 2012. When you think about the intellect, experience, and coherence of Hillary Clinton (setting aside her political views) and compare those traits to Palin's limited amounts of each, it becomes clear that the requirements for being a solid leader have become more about fluff versus substance. Much of this is due to shortened attention spans and the visceral reaction to a pretty package that lacks substance.

What irks me is the comment - and I have nothing against her daughter - that her daughter paid a price for being pregnant outside of marriage. It's not as big a price as others pay; her daughter has a wealthy family, a mother who is (was, at the time) governor, and availability of a lot of facilities that others don't have. And, because Mrs. Palin was governor, the daughter became prominent because of her pregnancy, and was afforded extremely lucrative speaking engagements through an agent. And, the daughter further continued to do media interviews (paid in many cases) while complaining about wanting/needing privacy, and then going on national television as a "celebrity." That's not a large price to pay. It seems that the pregnancy has paid dividends more than required a price to be paid.

Mrs. Palin goes on to say that her daughter "tries to help others girls with her abstinence message." Unfortunagely Ms. Palin wouldn't be a well-paid nor well known "celebrity" if she didn't become pregnant." In this case abstinence would have ensured her privacy. I fail to see what the abstinence message is. If anything, it appears that pre-marital pregancy is a better paying message.

Last, Mrs. Palin writes "Given the choice of role models between Bristol and Murphy Brown, I choose Bristol."

Murphy Brown, as was said years ago, isn't a role model; Murphy Brown was (and is) a scripted character, played by an actress in a television series. Murphy Brown is not real, and is no more a role model than Batman or Batgirl is, no more a role model than the Hulk is, or Dirk Pitt, or Mike Hammer.

These self-esteem-enhanced but talent-deprived performers eventually learn the truth." However, regarding her daughter on "Dancing with the Stars" she says Bristol joined "to challenge herself in a new, fun way."

Maybe, just maybe, those self-esteem-enhanced but talent-deprived performers wanted to challenge themselvs in a new, fun way, just as her daughter wanted to. Should they be denied the opportunity to try simply because they weren't as "talented" as other? Or as talented as her daughter?

    H. L. Mencken once wrote something about how the American people will someday get what it secretly wants in the White House: a Moron. Well, here comes Sarah Palin, who bases her foreign policy on her ability to see Russia, which she confuses with the USSR, from one of the windows in her home of the heads of her animal kills. She goes on to explain to city folks that her meat is wrapped in fur or hair unlike the meat sold in a super market. Her real talent is making the superficial appear more important than the bedrock of the American experiment in Democratic government i.e., the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Sarah Palin is another Right-Wing nut job who is obsessed with trying to elevate her failings, her daughters failings, and her families dysfunctions as something we should all admire and aspire to become, while at the same bashing and demonizing other people who have accomplished a great deal more in life.

She is nothing but an insecure, jealous, and small minded person trying to get attention and be noticed by those who are willing to fall for her self imposed delusional grandeur. And when she does not receive the attention that she so desperately craves, she lashes out at those who she cannot control, deceive, and manipulate.

In many ways, she is just like George Bush, Dick Cheney and other Right-Wingers, which is to try and convince anyone and everyone who will listen, that their "reality" is the truth and that we should all comply to their realities, even when they know way down deep that their realities are highly flawed and highly dysfunctional just like many other people in the world, if not worse.

There are, however, commonalities between Cheney and Palin. And that is, they both do a lot of hiding from the main stream (lame stream) media, because of their flawed realities; and, both Cheney and Palin also have anger management and bullying issues, which is another serious highly flawed reality that they refuse to acknowledge in order to protect themselves from criticism.

The only reason candidates write books these days is so their supporters can
buy them up by the gross without worry about campaign limits. You can bet that interest groups have already placed their big orders for this useless thing. The author gets credit for a "bestseller" that never leaves the box, and gets the campaign contribution without the $2,500 limit.

Sarah Palin had her chance to prove to the American people these past two years that SHE means business. I would have been more impressed with her had she not resigned as Governor of Alaska (population 800,000), and instead, let the GOP send her some excellent tutors to try to fill that empty head of hers before the 2012 primary.

She could have been tutored in foreign policy, American history, geography, economics, how our government functions, what the vice-president, Speaker and President actually DO (since she doesn't know!). Palin needed a LOT of book larnin'!

She could have stayed behind the scenes, acquiring badly needed knowledge that she did not get in her six years at four colleges to get a degree in journalism.

Instead, she QUIT as Governmor, CASHED in as Sarah Palin, that charming AIRHEAD who shook up the GOP..... and LOST the Oval Office for them! She has captivated the Tea Partiers and the Hillbillies, She is one of THEM they say..... you know......

    She had a shotgun wedding.
She has had very little college education.
    She had lots of kids....five!
She loves to kill animals, gut them, and eat them!
    She loves her wading boots!
She loves to wear animal skins in the winter, loves her polar bearskin couch.
She loves to go barefoot in the house.
She has kids who are high school dropouts.
She has one daughter who has given birth to an illegitimate child.
She has a gorgeous husband, First DUDE we call him. He is content to stay home while his wife "works"
    Her vocabulary is woefully lacking.

Yep! She is one of you all right!

She blew her chance to climb out of THAT hole!

The Tea Party loonies who usually spend Mondays casting 300 votes each for poor untalented Bristol Palin will now have to rush to their nearest bookstore to buy the latest primer penned by Sarah Palin, the 1/2 term Alaskan governor who is her own cash cow.

Do you remember when the nation was unfortunately introduced to this family due to John McCain's dementia? Bristol carried her baby brother wrapped in an enormous blanket that somewhat concealed her protruding stomach and advancing pregnancy. Levi was a prince then, and a spring or summer wedding was loudly proclaimed. Sarah, though charismatic to some, lacked knowledge, intelligence, experience, and honesty (The Bridge to Nowhere, accepting designer clothes, etc), and the Republican ticket was doomed. This defeated VP candidate, however, will just NOT go away.

Sarah Palin has an infinite ego despite her overwhelming deficits. She has captured the small minds of right wingers, who accept incompetancy and imperil our nation due to their intrinsic intolerance. These people "stayed the course" of calamity with George Bush for eight years but refuse to give our president of 23 months respect or cooperation.

Beware America, there is a "seemingly endless supply" of Palins "who are talent (and intelligence) deprived" waiting in the wings!

My favorite show used to be Dancing With The Stars..... until I saw that one of the "stars" this season was Bristol Palin. I watched one show this season, the first show, and refused to watch any since then. I said then, and I say now.... "Dancing With The Stars" was afer ratings, knowing those Tea Partiers would keep voting for Palin. I will NEVER watch "Dancing With The Stars Again"... It is not what it is supposed to be. Bristol Palin is NOT a star by any sense of the word, and the show has been manipulated by the Tea Partiers, as I predicted.

How low have we sunk when this person is regarded serious enough to criticize or defend?

Give me Imperial Rome for decadence. Do you think Palin would have the imagination to appoint a horse as her secretary of state?

For someone that can deal the lies like her (death panels...Obama wants to kill my Down's Syndrome baby)it's galling that she would complain about someone lying about her. Talk about outrageous. She's the last person on earth that should call others "talentless wannabes."

I could never read her book because I would constantly be hearing that awful, shrill nasal tone and that horrible accent.

Please God...tell me that we, as a country aren't stupid enough to elect this woman to the highest office in the world.

It's OK if you like her book...as long as you remember that she is an ignorant Hillbilly that lied shamelessly to advance her party's agenda at the cost of the truth. I'm talking about "Obama wants to kill my Down's Syndrome baby" and the "death Panel" farce. We should be able to depend on all of our leaders for accurate information about important issues and not accept it when one lies because she/he belongs to "our party." Her voice and accent are like finger nails on a chalk board...and lets face it...she's an idiot. Go to Youtube and enter "Palin Couric." If this woman ever, by some weird fluke...become the President of the United States of America...we would be the laughing stock of the world. By golly...you betcha! BTW...I am a conservative....that has never voted Democrat. There is a first time for everything.

I want to hear Sarah Palin say she's actually running for President, just so Katie Couric can interview her again.

Good lord, overemphasis on self esteem hasn't only ruined our educational system, it's ruining prime time TV! The horror must be stopped!

Someone should pick up a world history book and show Palin how it turned out when China decided that anyone with education, social status, or resources was a hateful, elitist class enemy who should be sent to shovel dung or break rocks, and only illiterate peasants were real people, who knew better than anyone else. Didn't work out so well for them, did it?

    Palin CANNOT win an election.

Her unfavorable score just hit a new high with 52% unfavorable and only 40% favorable. Rational people won't even assemble an exploratory campaign committee with such dismal numbers.

This data is from a Gallup poll taken after the recent midterm elections.

In addition, her favorable scores by party do not bode well. With Republicans, her score is 80%, with Independents it is 35% and with Democrats it is 15%.

The best outcome for the Democrats, and the worst for the Republicans, is for Palin to win the Republican nomination. The Democrats would then win in a landslide given the Gallup data mentioned above.

Don't expect some rehabilitation of her image over the next two years. Her favorable/unfavorable scores have only gotten worse over the past two years.

A contender for the "best case" scenario for the Democrats may be the formation of a legitimate, third party, most likely the Tea Party. It then doesn't matter which nomination Palin would receive (R or TP), the conservative vote would be split and the Democrats would cruise to a landslide victory.

I may have to consider donating to Palin's campaign next year as it may do more good for the Democratic party than if I were to donate it to the Dems!

Yes, 2012 is shaping up quite nicely for the Democrats as far as the White House is concerned. They would certainly keep the Senate and the outcome of the House would depend on what the Republican's get done in the very short time available (the caucuses begin in just over 12 months which means the campaigning will begin around late spring or early summer).

The Republicans simply do not have enough time to meet any of their promises, even though they were quite vague, let alone the repeal of Obamacare. That's what they ran on and that's what they promised to do.

The 112th Congress may take over the title of the "Do Nothing Congress." I wonder how that will sit with the voters since they ushered in the Republicans demanding change!

    @bubbasouth

another author that could evoke such a response? Hitler. Annually, Mein Kampf sells 15,000 copies a year in the US alone. It's been 65 years since his death. Just because an author has many copies of their book sold does not mean their ideas hold any merit or of any significance other than to their fans and zealots. Yes, this is an exaggerated comparison but your argument that the fact she has fans elevates her thoughts is exaggerated as well.

    Palin:
"'These self-esteem-enhanced but talent-deprived performers [on "American Idol"] eventually learn the truth.' But she loves 'Dancing with the Stars' and says Bristol joined 'to challenge herself in a new, fun way.'"

Now we know what sort of people worship Sarah Palin: Those so lacking even the most basic skills in critical thinking that they can't recognize illogic even when it bites them on the derrière.
