While we were out: In/Out, unmasked critic, Mellencamp split, QEII now a great-grandma
The Reliable Source is on vacation, returning on Jan. 3. In the meantime...
Check out Dan Zak and Monica Hesse's revelatory work on the 2011 In/Out List. Highlight: Celebvocacy is "out"! Which means... that "celebvocacy" (our word!) actually happened. We made it happen! (Will have to keep working on "famesque.") Can you guess which other ins/outs we contributed to?... You can't complain that you don't "get" the stuff on The List. As former List author Hank Stuever used to tell everyone, you can Google this stuff, and now they give you links to explain it all. And besides, not getting it is sort of the point.
In other news: The L.A. Times restaurant critic unmasked by a bitter restaurateur. Queen Elizabeth is a great-grandmother. And John Mellencamp and Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, his '90s supermodel wife of 20 years, are splitting up. Two kids.
