In other news...: Marty Peretz steps down as New Republic editor

Marty Peretz, longtime editor-in-chief of the New Republic, announced Wednesday he's stepping down from the top perch. The magazine's former owner (who stayed on after selling his share) said he'll end his controversial blog (criticized last year for declaring "Muslim life is cheap") and return to writing long-form stories as an editor emeritus.
Not one but two NYC magazines recently did lengthy profiles of Peretz:
New York: Peretz in exile
New York Times magazine: Martin Peretz is not sorry about anything
