Read this: Gilbert Arenas served with papers by ex-fiancee Laura Govan at Miami-Orlando halftime

It's on. The simmering battle between Gilbert Arenas and his ex-fiancee Laura Govan became official Thursday night when Govan had the NBA star served with child support and custody papers as he left the court during halftime of a televised game, the Associated Press reports.

The AP obtained the documents; Govan, who has three children by Arenas and is expecting their fourth, is seeking $1.3 million a year. Govan's rep told us in December that the former Wizards star had cut off financial support since the two split up around Thanksgiving, a claim reiterated in the filings.

Arenas denied it to the AP after his new team, the Orlando Magic, played the Wizards in Washington Friday night. "She tells the world that she's not getting money. She gets $20,000 a month."

I always liked Gil. Seemed to be his own person. But you gotta step up, man. There were all these stories about how close he was with his Dad growing up. Well, you're taking that away from your kids forever.

Another sorry brotha. These athletes are so dumb; as many educated black women are out there and you pick someone dumb enough to let you knock her up three times before marriage. BOTH morons.

Hey, at least this seems better than Haynesworth.

While this woman may well have been justified in seeking a forcible legal remedy to this, the way in which she did it appears entirely inappropriate. Halftime of a game? Seriously?

If you're gonna do that, send the forms via courier service, or have them presented to him in person at a different time.

I'm not saying that's not a lot of money to most people, but this is the Washngton DC area, one of the most expensive in the country, and $20K a month (regardless of how much I think it is), that's only $240 a year; a lot less than a lot of people earn in the region, and her "partner" and father of four children with her is a $100 million athlete who made it a habit of kicking her out of the house, children and all, and who spends $5,000 a month on his shark collection, as well as paying for someone to come in from Colombus every month to care for his sharks.

I won't say it's not a lot of money to me, but its a lot less than her being a golddigger.

Disclaimer notwithstanding, the face assuredly is that of the defendant. Said knee is not seen; the gentle man or gentle lady provisioning the papers might well be standing to the left.

It's interesting that she feels she should get $1.3 million per year because she has a fertile reproductive system.

He should have left that jersey chaser in California after the first baby.

A note to Gilbert: When people show you who they are - believe them.

I don't understand people sometimes. $20,000 a month is a lot of money yet I see some comments on here pooh poohing like Arenas isn't doing anything. He's giving $240,000 a year. That money is not taxed. So that is essentially like someone pulling down a salary of $400,000 a year. That's not even counting whatever she pulls down if she's working. There are plenty of children in the DC metro area living very well who's family don't make half of what she's getting just for child support.

After a certain amount of you have to ask yourself who is this "child support" money for? You people need to get a grip.

How, how, how can she not live well on $20,000 a month! Ridiculous person! I'm thinking she might just be a ... Gold digger!

It's funny that people are bashing Gil about not taking care of his kids. Who said that all of those kids are HIS KIDS. There are plenty of rumors that Shaq slept with this gold digger. Gil had reasons to leave her.
