FreedomWorks raises funds off of GEICO-gate

The strangest story of the week, about a voice actor losing his contract with GEICO after calling FreedomWorks volunteers "mentally retarded," ends the way you'd expect -- with the free-market group using the story to raise funds.

"Help us Fight Back Against Leftist Smears!" reads the e-mail to members of the group, written by FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe.

I wanted to share my latest blog post on BigGovernment.com, which tells how the car insurance company Geico fired its voiceover person for attacking the tea party movement and FreedomWorks. Other leftists are attacking this movement, calling us racists, traitors, Klansman and other slanderous, awful things. But we will not accept these attacks without pointing out the hypocrisy of those that call us hateful and vile.
You can help us fight back against attacks on our movement by making a generous contribution today. I assure you that we will not let the left attack us without defending ourselves and holding them accountable for their actions.

The voice actor, Lance Baxter (a.k.a. D.C. Douglas), has lost one lucrative deal and invited a lot of angry responses. But the story ends, as these things always do, with the drawing power of both parties considerably enhanced.
