Tea Party Federation launched to fight 'media misinformation'

Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation has e-mailed supporters to announce the launch of the National Tea Party Federation, organized to provide "rapid response to media misinformation."

Why is it needed? According to Phillips, it's because the media latched onto stories of smears being launched at black members of Congress during the health care debate -- despite wide, nearly universal agreement in the movement that this never occurred.

Spit-gate is one of the best examples of this. It took us seventy two hours to respond to an incident that NEVER HAPPENED! The RNC and certain GOP leaders were out apologizing for this incident that never happened and this changed the course of the discussion from the health care take over to the alleged “racism” and “violence” of the Tea Party Movement. This tactic worked for the regime. Trust me, we will see it again and next time the National Tea Party Federation will respond in a timely fashion.

The whole press release is after the jump.

Recent news reports have speculated that the National Tea Party Federation is a step toward the creation of a 3rd party, that the Federation is merging with the GOP, and that this is an effort to nationalize the tea party movement.

To clarify, the National Tea Party Federation is a broad coalition of national and regional Tea Party groups that have come together to allow for clarity of message, rapid response to media misinformation while continuing to build the brand equity of the Tea Party movement at the local and regional level. The NTPF will act in unison without a central leadership to collaborate to promote the movement's core principles of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government, and Free Markets.

The Federation will allow us to work together, pool resources and allow faster responses to the media spin. There are other benefits from this federation for those involved in the tea party movement and we will be announcing them soon.

As always, if you have questions about this federation or any other issue on Tea Party Nation, feel free to email me.
