Bob Bennett: Polls say I can win as a write-in

The defeated junior senator from Utah drops hint after hint in an interview with The Post's Mary Ann Akers:

"There are all kinds of mixed messages," the 76-year-old senator told us. "People are showing me polls that show I win the primary handily if I run as a write-in. Others say, 'Forget the primary, run as a write-in in the general, then you can use the money you've raised for the general.' "
Still others, he said, "say, 'Ah come on, you don't want to be seen as a... as a... sore loser.'"

The primary is June 22, and simply by talking this way, Bennett is encouraging some write-in votes for himself. But if there's any real effort to kick off a write-in campaign for a politician with universal name recognition in the state, I don't see it.
